2015 Fantasy Baseball

Fantasy Baseball Final: August 22nd

If You Only Read One Thing…
Paul Goldschmidt continues his MVP caliber season for the Diamondbacks going 4/5 with two home runs, three runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base. Goldi is now at 20 steals on the year and nearing 100 runs batted in, not to mention he is hitting .331. What an incredible year for Goldi in 2015, but it’s been hiding in the shadows of the likes or Bryce Harper and the youth movement around the National League. The Diamondbacks are at the bottom of the standings, which isn’t helping his case at NL MVP this season, but he is just as deserving, if not more than anyone else.

Just As We Expected…
Josh Donaldson has benefitted tremendously by moving this offseason from Oakland to Toronto. He hit his 34th home run of the season and drove in six, making him the first hitter to reach 100 on the year. He’s hitting for power, scoring runs, hitting for average, and driving in runs. Those who invested in Donaldson in his first year in Toronto hit the jackpot.

But We Didn’t See This Coming…
Nick Swisher started in Left Field for the Braves Saturday, where he hit two home runs and drove in four. Swisher has not been good this year for the Indians or the Braves, so this game came out of nowhere. Swisher will likely not be very fantasy relevant for the rest of the season for Atlanta, unless he goes back in time and parties like it’s 2006.

Saves…
David Robertson, Kevin Jepsen, Hector Rondon, Luke Gregerson, Daniel Hudson, Greg Holland, and Ken Giles all converted saves on Saturday. Ken Giles is the standout for me, as he has been a fantastic closing option for the Phillies in 2015 since the departure of Jonathan Papelbon.
