Daily Fantasy Baseball Strategy: Sunday May 15, 2016 – Value Plays

Below we’ve got a discussion on some some MLB DFS value plays for the Sunday 11-game slate on DraftKings. These are some names to consider for salary relief without completely punting the position. Our friends at RotoQL have once again been used to help guide your research for today’s games. Always double check team’s official lineups and the weather prior to submitting your lineups.

Matt Moore | Rays | $7,700 (DK) – Tampa Bay comes into this tilt with Oakland as a slight -120 favorite at the time of this writing to pair with one of the lowest game totals on the slate at 7.5 The Athletics are 25th in baseball in terms of wOBA against southpaws (.282) since the start of ‘15, however they are not prone to striking out all that much either (19.4%). Kevin Gausman would be second on this list and either of these two will allow you to get an ace along with some heavy bats in your lineup on the slate.

Josh Rutledge | Red Sox | $2,700 (DK) – This is a position many will be paying up for on this slate, but if you’re looking to get a piece of the high run total (10.5) between the Astros and the Red Sox in cheap fashion, Josh Rutledge could be your key at the cornerstone. Rutledge faces right-hander Chris Devenski who’s held opposing right-handed batters to a .262 wOBA in his short stint in the league, but he allows 13% more fly balls to righty bats (43%) than lefties (30%) and the wind is blowing out in Fenway. Dong potential.

Darwin Barney | Blue Jays | $3,100 (DK) – Darwin Barney gets the platoon advantage at just $3,100, you can slot him in at two positions and get a piece of the implied run total of 5.5 for Toronto. Javier Baez is another option here. He’s super cheap, you can slot him in two positions and get access to the 4.5 implied team run total.

Addison Russell | Cubs | $3,400 (DK) – A Russell/Baez mini-stack at the tail end of the Cubs’ lineup could pay some dividends in at a discount. Tournament consideration only. Russell owns a .357 wOBA and 117 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers this season while striking out less than he does versus southpaws. He hits for less power against same handed pitchers, but there is still nice value here.

Alex Presley | Brewers | $2,000 (DK) – Presley is projected to hit second with the platoon advantage with an expected game total of 9 and an implied team run total at 4.6. He has three homers and a .256 ISO against right-handers this season. Cesar Vargas has some reverse splits going on — he’s tougher on lefties — but it’s hard to pass on this value.

Preston Tucker | Astros | $3,400 (DK) – Again, Tucker gets a part of that gigantic team total in Boston, but he’ll be hitting at the bottom of the lineup. He owns a .330 wOBA and a .230 ISO against right-handers providing definite dong potential
