Two-Start Pitchers and SP Streamers: Week 2

The following list is my ranking of Week 2’s two-start starting pitchers. Since it’s so early in the season most of the decisions were made by previous years’ performance with an impressive first 2013 start and upcoming matchups being tiebreakers.

  1. Madison Bumgarner: 4/8 Colorado | 4/13 @ Chicago Cubs

Top streaming options owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues

  • Mike Leake – Friday at Pittsburgh: Leake was having a solid start Saturday against Washington before he walked Danny Espinosa and gave up a two-run homer to Wilson Ramos. I still recommend him even after giving up two homers to the Nats. As of Saturday afternoon, Pittsburgh has failed to homer on the season; is last in runs scored; and has a team OPS of .356. In 33 innings against Pittsburgh last year Leake had a 3.82 ERA.
  • A.J. Griffin – Thursday at Los Angeles Angels: It appears Griffin has a tough matchup here, but through their first four games Angels hitters have combined for 42 strikeouts, which is second worst in the majors, and their .646 OPS ranks 22nd.
  • Jhoulys Chacin – Saturday at San Diego: Chacin throws Sunday against the Padres in Colorado, but regardless of how that turns out he’s still a good streaming option for next weekend. Only Yonder Alonso has hit a home run for the Padres, and Chacin already has one impressive start – 6.2 innings, three hits, one earned run, six strikeouts against Milwaukee – on his 2013 resume.
