Over on Rotographs today I’ve got a post about the guys who gain and lose the most value when batting average is replaced with OBP. I think a lot of people in OBP leagues may be using rankings they pull from a website (like ours) or a magazine, but the vast majority of rankings you’ll find are based on the standard 5×5 categories. If you’ve found OBP-specific specific rankings, you can simply use the data below to compare to your rankings. But if you’re using rankings that aren’t OBP-specific, you should use this post to augment your rankings.
The chart below shows a player’s Fantasy Value Above Replacement (FVARz) for batting average and OBP leagues. I calculate FVARz by projecting each category, assigning a comparative value to each category and adding them all up to give the player a total fantasy value. I’ve also included where each player ranks among hitters in my rankings for batting average leagues and for OBP leagues as well as auction values for both types of leagues. Values are based on 12-team leagues with 25-man rosters. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to hit me up in the comments.
The columns should be sortable, so click on any of the OBP+ columns to order everything. And you can download the data to Excel by clicking ‘get the data’ after scrolling all the way down to the bottom of the chart.
