2014 Fantasy Golf Daily Fix: Wells Fargo Championship

This week the PGA tour stops in Charlotte, North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship played at the Quail Hollow Club Below you will find my DraftStreet daily fantasy picks for the tournament this week. Come on a join me for a round!

Tour Stop

The Quail Hollow Club is a 7,442 yards, par 72 course built in 1962 and revamped after the 1989 season.  is a 7,399 yards, par 72 course built in 2004. This is a tough course as one can gather from the news that the 2017 PGA Championship will be held at Quail Hollow. The final three-hole stretch, known as the “Green Mile,” is one of the hardest final three holes on tour.

Field

It’s a so-so field this week with 21 of the top 50 in the Overall World Golf Rankings teeing it up here but only one from the top 10.

Injuries

Bill Haas is due back from his wrist injury this week.  Jason Day remains out, but should be back next week for the Players. Seung-yul Noh looked fully healed last week. Briny Baird has withdrawn so keep him out of your lineups.

2013 Tournament Results

Here is the top 20 from the 2013 Wells Fargo Championship:

Wells Fargo Top 20 from 2013
Wells Fargo Top 20 from 2013

Let’s look at a few options this week.

DraftStreet Expert Picks

Jamie Donaldson | $16,675 – Donaldson plays on the European Tour regularly and plays well. Stateside he’s been a rock and should continue his run of solid play on a difficult course.

Jim Furyk | $18,921 – He’s missed one cut this season on tour and has two top 10s in his last three starts. He won here in 2007 and has four top 10s overall on this course.

Justin Hicks | $9,634 – Hicks just keeps grinding out cuts. He’s got six straight made cuts on tour and 13 out of 16 overall. He’s seventh on tour in fairways hit and fourth in greens in regulation – two stats that should carry him to the weekend.

J. B. Holmes | $15,948 – Holmes is still relatively cheap and he’s been on fire with three top 20s in his last three events and only one missed cut all year. I’ll keep touting him every week until he burns me.

Robert Karlsson | $12,776 – Tied for fourth here last year and has made his only three cuts on the PGA Tour this season.  Oh, he also lives in the area and is familiar with the course.

Chris Kirk | $15,138 – How can a guy with 14 straight cuts made be this cheap?

Pat Perez | $15,007 – Perez is another cut machine having missed only one this year with back to back top 20s.

Kevin Streelman | $14,283 – Streelman was tied for sixth here last year and has made 11 of 13 cuts this season. He’s in great form and should be able to handle the course.

Daniel Summerhays | $13,812- Summerhays is another under the radar guy that I like more than most. He likely won’t be on a number of rosters this week so he’s a good “pot odds” play especially in deeper tournaments.  He’s been up and down, but when up he’s been way up (tied for 2 nd at the Valero Open and tied for 21 st at Zurich).

Jimmy Walker | $19,157 – Walker is one of the best players on tour, but his price doesn’t reflect that fact. He’s only missed two cuts all year and he was tied for eighth at the Masters in his last time out.

Lee Westwood | $23,426 – Westwood is one of the hottest golfers in the world with a seventh at the Masters and a win at the Malaysian Open last week.  He was tied for fourth here last year and I expect a top five again this season.

Good luck this week! Head over to DraftStreet to choose your squad for this week.
