2013 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: July 22nd 2013

Today, I’m going to give the MLB Daily Dollar [$150 Guaranteed, Single Entry]  contest a go. It’s just a $1 entry and the top 40 score some dough. It’s a good entry level game for taking a first dip into the daily fantasy pool. Don’t forget to claim your deposit bonus!

Rotoinfo.com provides excellent updates as lineups roll in.

DraftKings.com Team of the Day:

It’s nearly a full slate today so there are lots of options. I’m going cheap on my pitching and loading up on star hitters for most of my lineup.

Ivan Nova | RHP | Yankees | $5,300 – Told you I was going cheap. Nova has had a lot of success against Yankees’ hitters. And he’s probably going to have a pretty long leash as the Yankees’ bullpen went deep on Sunday night against the Red Sox. Nova struck out 20 batters in his last 18 innings. It’s a high risk strategy, but in some of these deeper games you have to take some risks.

Tom Gorzelanny | LHP | Brewers | $5,000 – Gorz’s time in the rotation may be short, but he gets a solid matchup against the San Diego Padres. The Padres are middle of the road in K% against righties at 20%. He’s strung together two solid starts with 12 strikeouts in 12 innings. Again, it’s a risk, but I want to go with some studs on the hitting side.

Jonathan Lucroy | C | Brewers | $4,700 – Lucroy started his season poorly, but has been a top five catcher since he warmed up (.974 OPS since May 20, 1.172 OPS in July).

Chris Davis | 1B | Orioles | $6,200– Davis faces right hander Wade Davis (1.239 OPS versus righties this season for Davis) who has been terrible. Davis has a 5.50 ERA since June 1 and 11.77 over his last three starts.

Jason Kipnis | 2B | Indians | $4,900 – Kipnis has been hot hitting another home run on Sunday and a .975 OPS over his last seven games. And he gets Aaron Harang which is helpful.

Josh Donaldson | 3B | A’s | $4,400 – Donaldson has made his hay against left handed pitching this season with a 1.053 OPS. And he gets another lefty on Monday in the person of Dallas Kuechel.

Jhonny Peralta | SS | Tigers | $3,700 – Peralta seems to be in my lineup every Monday. If he’s out there facing a left handed starter, I’ll put him in my lineup. He continues to mash lefties to the tune of a .933 OPS this year.

Jonny Gomes | OF | Red Sox | $4,400 – Gomes has been on fire lately with a .912 OPS since June 1. He also faces a lefty and he has a career OPS 150 points higher against lefties in his career.

Michael Bourn | OF | Indians | $4,000 – This pick is about historical hitter/pitcher matchup. Bourn has 10 hits in 29 at bats against Mariners’ starter Aaron Harang. Also, Aaron Harang isn’t very good.

Carlos Gonzalez | OF | Rockies | $6,900 – Gonzalez is at home? Check. Career 1.037 in Colorado. Gonzalez is facing a righty?  Career .933 OPS against right handers. Check. The righty is someone named Tom Koehler? Check.

If you are looking to stack today I like the Orioles against Wade Davis (Henry Urrutia is a nice cheap option in the outfield as well).

Good luck today!

How about Giancarlo Stanton @ Col vs Pomeranz. He’s played 7 games there in his career and has 6 HR. He loves playing at Coors and does hit better vs lefties. A series in Colorado is exactly what Stanton needs. Thoughts?
