2014 Fantasy Football Daily Fix: Week 4 Tight Ends

DailyFixDKFeaturedImage

It is on to Week 4 of Daily Fantasy Football at DraftKings. I’m back again this week to offer my picks for the Tight End position at DraftKings. We had a couple of big injuries in Week 3 as Dennis Pitta is now lost for the season and Kyle Rudolph is gone for a month and a half. However, there is still plenty to choose from for the Week 4 DFS slate.

This is a great week to check out DraftKings and pick up a new way to play fantasy football.

DraftKings Tight End Recommendations

If you’ve never played on DraftKings before, you can get a deposit bonus by signing up. And there are different options to pick from at DraftKings for any skill level.

Also, a gentle reminder on the scoring for Tight Ends – this is a PPR site so remember that when selecting players. The full for scoring for Tight Ends is at the end of this column.

Tight Ends can also be used in the flex position at DraftKings. However, with the entire world of RBs and WRs at your disposal, it would be unlikely you’d have to head to the TEs to pick up a flex play. Jimmy Graham is always in play as a flex option.

Let’s take a look at a couple of options at each price point. For those who are new to the column, I’ll generally look at a couple of options in each pricing tier broken out based on the socioeconomic status of 1970s sitcom families. And I’ll always cover Jimmy Graham.

I’ll mention Football Outsiders a lot over the season – the passes per game and yards per game stats I use are from Football Outsiders. Here is the link to Football Outsiders’ 2013 stats. FO stats for 2014 are here and I like to use the defense versus types of receivers to fill out my rosters.

The Graham Tier

Jimmy Graham | Saints | ($7,500) – Graham’s price drops $500 and he gets to face the weakest defense against TEs this year. It’s possible* Graham scores 100 points this week at DraftKings. (*Not impossible, but probably not likely).  You, I and everyone else will be on Graham and for good reason. He’s got a chance to carry your team this week. He should be on your roster this week.

The Jeffersons

There is nothing to see here in a pretty small neighborhood between Graham and the $5,000 floor with the Jeffersons. If you don’t want to pay for Graham, I’d head down the line to find your option for this week.

All in the Family

Delanie Walker | Titans | $4,900 – Walker would usually be here as an option with his good matchup with the Colts. However, there are questions at QB for the Titans so I’d probably hold off even if Jake Locker is back under the helm as the wrist injury he suffered seems that it may linger even if he’s deemed “healthy.”

Antonio Gates | Chargers | $4,400 – Gates continues to look like the Gates from five years ago, and Ladarius Green is clearly playing second-fiddle to Gates. Any time a team plays the Jaguars, it’s time to consider those players for your lineup. Gates is a fine choice in the mid-tier.

And don’t go crazy over Ladarius Green ($3,700) in this matchup. Green has only seen the field on just over a third of the Chargers’ offensive snaps. It certainly looks like he won’t have much value if/when Gates is felled by injury.

Owen Daniels | Ravens | $4,100 – Daniels slides into the #1 TE role in Baltimore with the season ending injury to Dennis Pitta. On the surface Daniels’ matchup looks tough, but the Panthers have given up 9 passes per game (fourth worst) to TEs and he won’t be splitting time with anyone this week.

Good Times

I’m still digging around down here for value, but Jimmy Graham’s matchup looks almost too tasty to pass up.

Travis Kelce | Chiefs | $3,700 – Kelce’s snap count continues to increase as he played 47 snaps last week (didn’t I predict 46 in last week’s column?). He’s got back to back 12 point games ,and he’s still the most dangerous pass catcher in that lineup (in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king).

The Patriots are tough against TEs, but someone has to catch the ball in that offense. Why not Kelce? And digging a bit deeper on the Pats D, we see they have faced two injured TEs (Charles Clay and Kyle Rudolph) and a team (the Oakland Raiders) who don’t seem to have a TE.

Garrett Graham | Texans | $3,330 – Graham missed Week 1, picked up a single target in Week 2 and was up to six targets in Week 3 as he works himself back into the offense. The Bills give up just over nine passes per game and just under 80 yards per game to TEs so the matchup is there for Graham to have a big week at near minimum price.

MarQueis Gray | Vikings | $3,000 – Gray steps into Kyle Rudolph’s shoes this week. The matchup is OK and Gray has Teddy Bridgewater at QB this week so this is more a GPP play than a cash game one. However, he’s cheap and a starter.

Good luck in Week 4!

10 Receiving Yards = +1PT (+0.1PT per yard is awarded)
Reception = +1PT
Receiving TD = +6PTs
100+ Yard Receiving Game = +3PTs
Fumble Lost = -1PT
2 Point Conversion (Pass, Run, or Catch) = +2PTs
Offensive Fumble Recovery TD = +6PTs

The full DraftKings scoring system is here.
