2014 Fantasy Golf Daily Fix: Hero World Challenge

tiger land

I’m back for a quick look at the PGA DFS game at DraftKings. We’re back for this week’s edition of The Fantasy Fix’s Daily Fantasy golf column. We head to Windermere, FL to the Isleworth Golf & Country Club for the Hero World Challenge. I usally have a longer column with more in-depth analysis, but this is a small field, no-cut tourney so we’ll only have a few options listed without too much analysis.

It’s a great week to check out DraftKings as they have some top notch contests. Come on over and take a look.

Tour Stop

This week we head to a no-cut event hosted by Tiger Woods. This is a great way to check out DraftKings’ PGA games as you know every player is going to play all four rounds. You don’t have to sweat the cut line.

The tour heads to Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, FL for the Hero World Challenge. The course is a 7,544 yard par 72 course.

Field

Everyone who is here is a stud (or a friend of Tiger).

This is a no-cut event. All 18 players will play four rounds.

Also, thanks to GolfOdds.com for the odds this week.

Past Tournament Results

Isleworth has hosted the Tavistock Cup six times in the past and most recently last year (2013). It is also the home course for the University of Central Florida and as a result has hosted the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational since 2005 on this course.

DraftKings Expert Picks

Jason Day | $7,400 – This is Day’s first tournament of the season as he took some time off to get healthy. He’s one of the top 10 golfers in the world when he’s right and my hope is that the layoff has done him good.

Rickie Fowler | $8,600 – Fowler was the hottest golfer in the majors last year. His swing revamp was complete and it led him to top five finishes in all four majors. I look for him to continue his strong play here in Florida.

Chris Kirk | $5,600 – Kirk was fourth here in the 2005 Invitational and has two top 15s this season in his two starts. He makes a good cheap option that allows you to stack the rest of your lineup looking for the winner.

Jordan Spieth | $8,300 – Spieth won the Invitational here in 2011 and is coming in hot with a win last week in Australia. He has a great chance to win and his price is reasonable.

Patrick Reed | $5,200 – Reed loves the Florida courses. He won in Florida last year. He’s cheap so he allows me to get more studs into my lineup. He’s a bigger risk than fellow cheapie Kirk so tread with caution.

Henrik Stenson | $10,300 – Stenson is the favorite in Vegas and should be on your squad. He’s from nearby Orlando and has three top three finishes in his last four starts. He should be able to handle the length this course will serve while playing solidly around and on the greens.

Bubba Watson | $9,300 – If there is a player who could claim that he knows this course better than Tiger it might be Bubba. Bubba lives in Tiger’s old pad in Isleworth and plays the course extensively. Moreover, he’s a bomber and should have no trouble handling the length.

Tiger Woods | $6,900 – Woods is in the middle of the pack in price. He’s a complete wild card as he hasn’t played in three months and when he did play he looked old and decrepit. He’s in my lineup this week because I believe his new swing will help him, he should be well rested and he knows this course inside and out. It’s tough to pass him up for this price.

Good luck this week! Head over to DraftKings to choose your squad for this week.

Scoring Notes: Ties for a finishing position will not reduce or average down points. For example, if 2 golfers tie for 3rd place, each will receive the 18 fantasy points for the 3rd place finish result. Playoff Holes will not count towards final scoring, with the exception of the “finishing position” scoring. For example, the golfer who wins the tournament will receive the sole award of 1st place points, but will not accrue points for their scoring result in the individual playoff holes.

Player Lock Notes: All golfers lock at the time the first golfer tees off on day 1 of an event.
