2014 Fantasy Golf Daily Fix: The RBC Canadian Open

We come down off the high of the Open Championship and head north of the border to beautiful Montreal (actually Ile Bizard, Quebec in Canada) for the RBC Canadian Open. And DraftKings has rolled out the red carpet again with some fantastic games. Check them out!

Tour Stop

The RBC Canadian Open will be held at the Royal Montreal Golf Club (Blue Course). The Blue Course is a 7,135 yard par 70 with 14 par fours among its 18 holes. The course hasn’t hosted this tournament since 2001, but did host the 2007 Presidents Cup. So, there isn’t a lot of course history to go on.

We’ll want to focus on players who score well on par fours and those who can keep the ball in the fairway as there is plenty of rough as well as water all over the back nine.

Field

It’s the week after a major so we’ve got a very thin lineup this week as nine of the top 50 in the Overall World Golf Rankings are here this week. And many of those are due to sponsor tie-ins with RBC. Oh, and no Canadian has won this tournament since 1954. I’ll probably stay away from any of the locals.

Let’s look at a few options this week.

DraftKings Expert Picks

Chad Campbell | $8,000 – Campbell sits first in Greens in Regulation % (GIR %) and 36 th in Driving Accuracy. He does struggle on par 4s as his scoring is down in the 110s. He’s got two top 10s in his last three outings (sandwiched around a missed cut).

Jim Furyk | $9,900 – Furyk is the all-time money leader at this tournament. He did play here at the Presidents Cup in 2007 and is one of the most consistent golfers on tour.

Retief Goosen | $7,300 – Goosen makes cuts (10 straight made), but doesn’t put up a lot of points while doing so. If you can with a star-heavy lineup, he’s a solid option to make sure you get all six guys through to the weekend.

Charley Hoffman | $9,000 – Hoffman hasn’t missed a cut since the Nixon administration. (That’s probably hyperbole). He’s also ranked eighth in scoring on par 4s.

Adam Hadwin | $5,600 – Ok, maybe one Canadian here. Hadwin has shown well on the WEB.com tour this year with two victories.

Dustin Johnson | $10,200 – Johnson bombs the ball so he’ll likely be able to miss on some of the rough as long as he keeps his ball on the straight and narrow (which he hasn’t been great at). However, he’s  tied for 13 th in par four scoring and he’s my pick to walk away with the win this week.

David Lingmerth | $6,300 – Lingmerth sits at 19th in par 4 scoring and did finish in the top 20 of this tourney last year even it was at a different venue.

William McGirt | $7,900 – McGirt has played well at this tourney (at another course, of course), but back to back runner-up finishers are tough to ignore.

Robert Streb | $7,200 – Streb is on here because he’s tenth overall in par 4 scoring.

Check out my lineup as it sits right now.

I’m going quite top heavy and I realize that, but this tournament has very few sure things. I’d like to get my hands on as many as I can.

Good luck this week! Head over to DraftKings to choose your squad for this week.

Scoring Notes: Ties for a finishing position will not reduce or average down points. For example, if 2 golfers tie for 3rd place, each will receive the 18 fantasy points for the 3rd place finish result. Playoff Holes will not count towards final scoring, with the exception of the “finishing position” scoring. For example, the golfer who wins the tournament will receive the sole award of 1st place points, but will not accrue points for their scoring result in the individual playoff holes.

Player Lock Notes: All golfers lock at the time the first golfer tees off on day 1 of an event.
