2015 Daily Fantasy Football Strategy: Week 10 Tight Ends

It is on to Week 10 of the NFL and Daily Fantasy Football at DraftKings. I’m back to provide recommendations for Tight Ends for your weekly lineup. This week is the perfect week to take a dip into the Daily Fantasy pool as you can win $1,000,000! Daily Fantasy can help you with lineup decision for your season-long league and give you another team to root on during the weekend.

This is a great week to check out DraftKings and pick up a new way to play fantasy football.

DraftKings Tight End Recommendations

If you’ve never played on DraftKings before, you can get a deposit bonus by signing up. And there are different options to pick from at DraftKings for any skill level.

Finally, a gentle reminder on the scoring for Tight Ends – this is a PPR site so remember that when selecting players. The full for scoring for Tight Ends is at the end of this column.

Tight Ends can also be used in the flex position at DraftKings. However, with the entire world of RBs and WRs at your disposal Rob Gronkowski is probably the only TE you’d consider as a flex option. TEs still make a viable option at the flex spot as long as the pricing continues to be soft.

Let’s take a look at a couple of options at each price point. For those who are new to the column, I’ll generally look at a couple of options in each pricing tier broken out based on the socioeconomic status of 1970s sitcom families. And I’ll always cover Rob Gronkowski.

I’ll mention Football Outsiders a lot over the season – the passes per game and yards per game stats I use are from Football Outsiders. Here is the link to Football Outsiders’ 2013 stats. FO stats for 2014 are here and I like to use the defense versus types of receivers to fill out my rosters. And we now have 2015 stats located here.

Teams on bye: Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers

So, we lose Jacob Tamme, Coby Fleener/Dwayne Allen, Antonio Gates/Ladarius Green and well, Garrett Celek?

Over/Under

We’ve added a new feature this year highlighting the top totals (over/under) in Vegas for the week.

The top over/under totals for Week 10 (according to Vegas Insider consensus):

New England Patriots at New York Giants (54.5 points)
New Orleans Saints at Washington at New England Patriots (50 points)
Miami Dolphins at Philadelphia Eagles (49 points)
Detroit Lions at Green Bay (48.5 points)
Jacksonville Jaguars at Baltimore Ravens (47.5 points)

This week looks like Gronk or punt at first blush. But, let’s see what we can find.

The Gronk Tier

Rob Gronkowski | Patriots | $8,000 – Highest total on the board? Check. One of the five worst defenses against the TE? Check. Gronk? Check. Not much else to say. If you want to pay up, he won’t have a much better matchup. And with Dion Lewis going down, could we see more passes to Gronk? Perhaps. His ownership will probably be through the roof, but I probably won’t be one of them.

The Jeffersons

Greg Olsen | Panthers | $6,300 – So, fine, Olsen has a great matchup. And he’s been a target hog though he’s had a mix of targets. Since week three, his targets have been 11, 6, 11, 5, 12, and 7. So, if we follow along double digit targets should be in store this week. I don’t see a ton of gamers on him this week as everyone will pay up for Gronk or slide down to grab some safety or upside elsewhere.

Tyler Eifert | Bengals | $5,800 – The Texans offer a bit of resistance as they are just about leaguage average against the TE. Digging a bit deeper, we see that the Texans have “feasted” on poorer TEs, but have struggled with the better TEs they’ve faced. They’ve given up six or more receptions to Travis Kelce, Greg Olsen, Julius Thomas and Delanie Walker. But, the Texans have only surrendered three TDs to TEs on the season and only one since Week 1. Eifert had a big week last week, but I don’t see a reason to roster him at this price.

Jason Witten | Cowboys | $5,100 – Matt Cassel is still the QB. Continue to pass.

All in the Family

Jimmy Graham | Seahawks | $4,900 – Who would have thought we’d see Graham below $5,000, but here we are. The Seahawks come out of their bye week and perhaps they’ve figured out a way to get Graham the ball more frequently? Maybe. But, maybe not. They face one of the tougher defenses against TEs and I’d rather drop down to the next man than risk Graham.

Gary Barnidge | Browns | $4,800 – Johnny Manziel was at QB last week and that’s kryptonite for Barnidge. If Josh McCown is back at QB, fire up Barnidge as my favorite TE this week. His floor is the highest of any TE here (except Gronk) and he comes $3,200 cheaper than Gronkowski. If Manziel is back at QB, then avoid Barnidge at all costs.

Travis Kelce | Chiefs | $4,800 – With Barnidge at $4,800, there really isn’t a need to consider Kelce. When the Chiefs and Broncos met in Week 2, Kelce had four catches (on five targets) for 58 yards. There isn’t a lot of upside here.

Delanie Walker | Titans | $4,700 – Walker produced yet again last week though he did get lucky with deflection after deflection landing in his hands. He’s still a safety blanket for Marcus Mariota and his floor is probably 10 points with an upside in the 15 to 18 point range. The Panthers have given up three TDs and just over nine targets to TEs in the last three weeks.

Martellus Bennett | Bears | $4,700 – Hey, look…Alshon Jeffrey is hurt…again. And if he’s not around, Bennett becomes the main target in the offense. The Rams have been tough on TEs, but they have given up six catches to TEs five times this year so we could see Bennett’s upside similar to Delanie Walker.

Jordan Reed | Washington | $4,600 – Reed snagged a TD last week to salvage a tough week. But, there isn’t a reason to jump off the train. Reed is still the best receiver on the team and Kirk Cousins will continue to look for him. He’s had no fewer than six targets in a game.

Benjamin Watson | Saints | $4,300 – For all of Washington’s faults (and there are many), they have been tough on TEs all year. They’ve only given up double digit points to TEs twice this year.

Good Times

Julius Thomas | Jaguars | $3,700 – Watch Allen Hurns’ health – if he’s out, JT could be in for some more targets.

Eric Ebron | Lions | $3,300 – The Packers are in the bottom third of teams against the TE, but the Lions’ offense is in shambles. Or at least something close to shambles. Even so, Ebron has double digit point upside.

Kyle Rudolph | Vikings | $3,000 – Start your TE versus the Raiders? This may be the test of that theory. Though, the Raiders have given up a TD to a TE in every game but one this year. Two catches, 20 yards and a TD gets you 10 DK points and Rudolph could easily put that together.

Heath Miller | Steelers | $3,000 – The Browns have given up five TDs to TEs in the last two weeks. Slot Miller in with confidence as he should be a solid part of the offense again this week.

Sanford and Son

As we strive to give you more and more each week, we’ve added a new tier. The Sanford & Son tier. If you want to go dumpster diving hoping to find that gem, let Sanford & Son be your guide. You hear that Elizabeth? I’m coming to join ya!

Austin Seferian-Jenkins | Buccaneers | $2,800 – He’s sort of in the same spot as last week though he has a less favorable option. If he’s active, he’s going to get targets as the Bucs have only Mike Evans as a viable receiving option. He’s a punt play option this week if active.

Vernon Davis | Broncos | $2,500 – Davis only saw nine snaps last week, but his snap count should grow each week. And if Emanuel Sanders is beat up, perhaps he sees some more looks.

Clive Walford | Raiders | $2,500 – If you need to save $300 from ASJ, look here. He caught one pass for a TD last week. But he had five targets (more than any other Raiders’ TE) and the coaching staff likes him.
