@DraftKings Team for Sunday

Pitcher: Roberto Hernandez | $5,000: Rays: vs. Oakland: Oakland pitcher Tommy Milone has received 28 runs of support in his first three starts this season. Those three games, he faced Joe Saunders, Erik Bedard, and Joe Blanton. Now he faces Roberto Hernandez – (the artist formerly known as Fausto Carmona). Hernandez is a bit of a risk, but with the upside of pitching in the pitcher friendly Trop, and the Oakland lineup being inconsistent, he’s a risk worth taking.

P: Homer Bailey | $9,300: Reds vs. Marlins: Its always worrisome when a guy is coming off what is seemingly a career best start – Bailey went eight strong innings in his last time out, facing the Phillies, he struck out ten and gave up only 2 hits, allowing zero runs, and not walking a batter. Now he faces the Marlins? Sign me up!

Catcher: Joe Mauer | $5,000: Twins @ White Sox: Mauer has absolutely obliterated Gavin Floyd in his career, going 19-43 with 10 walks. His triple slash against Floyd is .442/.556/.791. Mauer is the epitome of a must-start.

First Base: Adrian Gonzalez | $5,700: Dodgers @ Orioles: Gonzalez has pounded Baltimore starter Jake Arrieta back from when Gonzalez played for the Red Sox. Arrieta was a sleeper for me heading into the season, but he’s been getting pounded so far this year.  Gonzalez is 5-11 with a HR against Arrieta.

Second Base: Justin Turner | $3,300: Mets vs. Nationals: Punting second base here; no other way to describe it. Turner had a couple of RBI’s last night, maybe he can do it again.

Third Base: Luis Jimenez | $2,200: Angels vs. Tigers: Jimenez has been on absolute fire since being called up and starting for the injured Alberto Callaspo. Jimenez has scored 6 runs in his past 3 games and is hitting .479 on the young season. He’s a must start while he’s start – at this price anyway.

Shortstop: Jhonny Peralta | $3,400: Tigers @ Angels: Quite honestly, this pick is much more about pricing than it is about Peralta’s success against C.J. Wilson in his career – (1-17 with 9 strikeouts and only 3 walks). C.J Wilson is completely overrated, and has been walking the farm. The Tigers are also looking for revenge for Rick Porcello after the beatdown he received Saturday.

Outfield: Torii Hunter | $4,500: Tigers @ Angels: Torii Hunter is seriously making a case for why lineup protection might actually be real for players hitting ahead of stud hitters. Torii is getting thrown lots of fastballs, and he’s hitting over .400 for the season. Hunter doesn’t walk much nowadays, but he’s got 8 career walks against C.J Wilson, compared to only 5 strikeouts.

Jacoby Ellsbury | $6,000: Red Sox vs. Royals: Ellsbury is hitting a whopping .385 off of Jeremy Guthrie with 39 AB in his career with three stolen bases. If he gets on base, he’ll steal. If he gets on base, David Ortiz will knock him in (see his stats later in article).

Justin Upton | $5,600: Braves @ Pirates: Justin Upton is a monster. Justin Upton is facing a left-hander. That left-hander is named Jonathan Sanchez. Jonathan Sanchez is absolutely terrible. Start him.

Back-up options and other choices for Salary Mixing and Matching:

If you want to go heavy on pitching, there are some good options:

Pitchers:

Tommy Milone | $9,000: He’s facing the Rays, and they while Longoria has been hot, the rest of the team is still scuffling all over the place. He could rack up some K’s too – Shelley Duncan has already struck out four times against Milone for “tomorrow’s game”.

Kris Medlen | $10,400: Medlen is my boy, he finally had an excellent start last time out, and he could be picking up steam. If you want to go with a safe, high priced pitcher, look no further!

First Base:

Travis Hafner | $4,700: Hafner has been absolutely excellent in a Yankee uniform, hitting for average, getting on base at a great clip (above .400), and he’s hit five home-runs. The Yankees have been getting great things out of these seemingly over the hill veterans for a few years now as a recycling project, and Hafner looks to be the poster boy for that, along with fellow veteran recycling project Vernon Wells.

Ike Davis | $4,400: Ike Davis epitomizes a hot/cold player, and after hitting 2 HR off Stephen Strasburg on Friday, Davis faces Jordan Zimmerman, who he has a .389 OBP against in 17 career plate appearances.

Second Base:

Dustin Pedroia | $5,400: If punting positions isn’t your thing, you should find a way to get Pedroia into your lineup at second base. He hits .304/.373/.435, in 51 plate appearances in his career vs. Jeremy Guthrie.

Third Base:

If Draft Kings gets Anthony Rendon into their possible selections for players, grab him. He’ll be cheap, and with Ryan Zimmerman heading to the 15-day DL with a hamstring injury, Rendon will get starts at 3B. Check closer to game-time for Rendon’s availability.

Shortstop:

Jean Segura | $4,300: Just because I wanted to mention Segura stealing 1st base:

Outfield:

Chris Denorfia | $4,400: I’d love Denorfia more if he wasn’t so highly priced, but Denorfia is 4-9 in his career against Barry Zito. He’s the platoon mate for Wil Venable on the Padres, and they both are excellent in their roles.

Quick Hits:

Rick Porcello got obliterated last night – 9 ER in less than an Inning pitched. Go get Drew Smyly. NOW Smyly is widely available in nearly all ESPN leagues, and he’ll offer excellent strikeouts and has been one of my favorite breakout sleepers this year.

And… not to be outdone, my boy, yes, im a Scott Kazmir fan boy. Kazmir couldn’t get to 5 innings so he could get a win. Kazmir was staked with a 14-0 lead and STILL couldn’t get far enough into the game for the win. He went 3.1 innings and gave up 6 runs. He didn’t locate well as he threw only slightly more than 50% of his pitches for strikes. And further not to be outdone, Philip Humber, yes the former perfect game Phillip Humber, gave up 8 earned runs in the less than an inning as well. You know what’s really fun? The original 9 earned runs in less than an inning guy, Vin Mazzaro, has yet to give up a run this year, and he’s pitched 2 of the past 3 days.

Good Luck in setting your @DraftKings lineups for Sunday April 21st !!
