2013 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: May 25th 2013

Daily Fantasy Baseball Fix

Today I’m playing the $1 Double Up contest, and when you sign up at DraftKings don’t forget to claim your deposit bonus.

Before I get into my @DraftKings team of the day, here are some weather notes for tomorrow’s games. –Note rain percentages aren’t definitive and are best used as a reminder to check the weather status again on game-day before selecting a player from that game.

Potential Rainouts:

CLE @ BOS: 60 % chance of rain at game time

ATL @ NYM: 40 % chance of rain at game time

My team:

Pitcher: R.A. Dickey | $8,500 vs. BAL; Dickey is slowing starting to come around. He gets a hot hitting Baltimore team, but that’s why I’ve got Chris Davis as a handcuff.

Pitcher: Matt Moore | $10,100 vs. NYY: The Yankees have always been a lineup that left-handed pitchers can just buzzsaw right through. Moore is one of the best in the game despite his weekly inconsistencies. Those inconsistencies stem from fastball command that fades in and out congruently with his mechanics.

Catcher: Jose Lobaton | $2,800 vs. NYY: Punting catcher has never been so fun!! Switch out Lobaton with Jose Molina, should Molina start in Lobaton’s place. The Rays face Vidal Nuno, an unknown commodity for the Yankees.

First Base: Adam Lind | $3,900 vs. BAL: Lind has been heating up as of late, and hits 4-8 against Freddy Garcia, with two home runs in his career off him.

Second Base: Kelly Johnson | $3,400 vs. NYY: Johnson has enjoyed a renaissance season, and if the Rays get to Vidal Nuno as I expect they will, Johnson should have his mark on the game.

Third Base: Mark Reynolds | $5,300 @ BOS: Reynolds hits .333/.474/.667 against Lester in his career with a home run, two doubles, and three walks (against only two strikeouts) in 18 plate appearances. Also, with the Green Monster in play, Reynolds should flourish.

Shortstop: Jhonny Peralta | $3,500 vs. MIN: Peralta has been incredible this season. At 3,500, he’s a must have.

Outfield: J.B. Shuck | $3,400 @ KC: Shuck has been an underrated contributor to the Angels thus far in 2013. His price tag is cheap and he hits well against Guthrie in his career (2-3).

Outfield: Chris Davis | $5,400 @ TOR: Davis has been going absolutely bonkers over the past seven days. Davis has four home runs (three in each of his last three games as well), seven runs scored, seven RBI, and a .467 OBP. His magical season continues to chug along.

Outfield: Matt Joyce | $3,400 vs. NYY: See above on Nuno. Joyce has monster power, and has been excellent so far in May. Overall, Joyce has eight home runs in 2013 with a .338 OBP.

News and Notes from Friday in Baseball

Curtis Granderson left Friday’s game with a fractured knuckle on his left pinkie, according to Bryan Hotch of MLB.com. Granderson is likely headed back to the disabled list. Unfortunately for Yankees fans, this means more Ichiro Suzuki. A good replacement for Granderson is the aforementioned Matt Joyce. Joyce is only owned in 15.1% of leagues, and will replace the power Granderson was expected to bring his owners.

Rays starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez (the artist formerly known as Fausto Carmona) ended his streak of being reliable at home, and only on the road, being a disaster. Hernandez gave up six hits, five earned runs, three walks, and a home run. He only struck out three. Hernandez did all of this in four innings, and is absolutely droppable now in every format. He is safe to disregard going forward.

Anibal Sanchez continued his dominant season, tossing a one-hit complete game shutout against the Minnesota Twins. He struck out twelve and walked three. The Tigers won 6-0

Washington outfielder Denard Span continued his struggles on Friday, going only 1-5, and dropped his batting average to .264 after starting out incredibly hot. Span’s on-base-percentage of .328 is actually higher than his slugging percentage (only .326). Span has been quite a disappointment for fantasy owners who took a flier on him as a potentially good source of runs scored. He could still deliver that, but if his batting average and extra base power don’t improve, he risks being moved down in the order.

My man crush Adam Lind went 3-5 for the Blue Jays with a home run – his fourth of the season. His strong effort was not enough as Chris Davis powered the Orioles past the Jays 10-6. Lind is hitting .284/.390/.490. Don’t look now, but he might be back!! He’s only owned in 2.6% of ESPN.com standard leagues.
