2013 Fantasy BaseballFantasy BaseballTeam Fix

2013 Fantasy Baseball, The Daily Fix: August 14th, 2013

The baseball season continues on as we get close to the three-quarters point. That means traditional fantasy leagues are approaching the playoffs. If you are in a league that likes to go two weeks in each round you are already there. Most fantasy players have checked out mentally. With NFL teams moving onto their second preseason games, you can see the attention of the fantasy world completely shifting to football.

Draftkings wants to keep your head in the game with great offers and terrific contests. Personally, I love coming back and giving it another go whether I’ve won or lost the previous day. Draftkings is offering more. They are running one more huge contest and this one only cost two dollars to qualify. The $100K Sweet Spot will run on August 23rd. Unlike many of the other contests, this one is very affordable. So, don’t give up on fantasy baseball quite yet.

Today, I’m playing in a Double Up! contest again. They range anywhere from a dollar to ten dollars, but each works the same way. If you finish in the top half you get almost twice as much as you put in. Naturally, DraftKings gets their cut because they have to pay their employees, the light bill, and make a little for their trouble. That being said, they are very generous to those that start playing as they will give you a deposit bonus you can access here.

If you can count on anything in daily fantasy baseball it is quality pitching. Hitters will run hot and cold from day to day, but true quality pitching is tough to deny. So, it pays to invest some time and salary into your pitchers so you can have a fighting chance to win your contest. Pitching has usually been the difference between winning and losing for my teams.

My Lineup

Salary

FPPG

Notes
C

Brian McCann

3,900

7.7

3,900 for a top five fantasy catcher seems like highway robbery.
1B

Kendrys Morales

3,100

7.6

Morales is not an elite first baseman, but 3,100 seems like stealing.
2B

Kyle Seager

3,500

8.1

He is probably the most underrated player in baseball according to Draftkings.
3B

Pedro Alvarez

3,600

7.5

Take away his April and May and he is a top five third baseman. He might be there with those months.
SS

Jonathan Villar

2,800

7.9

He should be back from his hand injury and he is still a very dangerous base stealer.
OF

Wil Myers

3,900

9.0

Why is he still going for less than 4000?
OF

Jacoby Ellsbury

4,600

9.8

Take away his April and he might be an MVP candidate.
OF

Yasiel Puig

5,300

9.6

Puig may not be on the Roy Hobbs pace he was earlier, but he is still very good.
P

Jordan Zimmerman

8,300

18.5

He was money in April and May. He isn’t the best on the board, but he’s the best for the price.
P

Matt Garza

10,400

19.4

He has been especially good since joining the Rangers and they have a better chance to win.
