Welcome to the sixth week of the Fix DL Report. Each week I (@Rich_Migs) will cover significant fantasy baseball injuries. As the season continues, the report will address some of the most recent injuries and their fantasy implications.

OUT FOR THE SEASON: Patrick Corbin, Brandon Beachy, Kris Medlen, Jarrod Parker, Cory Luebke, Bruce Rondon, Bobby Parnell, Jameson Taillon, Avisail Garcia, Matt Moore, Maicer Izturis, Ivan Nova, A.J. Griffin

ON THE WAY BACK: Wilson Ramos (this week/next week), A.J. Ellis (next week), Aaron Hicks (this week/next week), Clayton Kershaw (activated), Casey Janssen (this week/next week), Lorenzo Cain (activated)

PLAYERS TO WATCH (Not on DL/DL Updates): Ervin Santana (thumb), Michael Bourn (hamstring), Brett Lawrie (hamstring), A.J. Pollack (groin), Dioner Navarro (quad), Yasiel Puig (head), Joe Mauer (back), Billy Hamilton (fingers), Jose Lobaton (shin), Josh Reddick (ankle), Jimmy Rollins (groin), Edward Mujica (oblique)

  • Santana is expected to miss his next start, but should avoid the disabled list.
  • Bourn has a chance to land on the DL, as does Edward Mujica.

Every week it feels as if we lose another first or second rounder for a significant amount of time. This time, Ryan Braun and Jason Kipnis are the headline acts.

Here is week five’s DL report. I will be doing my best to avoid too much repetition each week, so be sure to refer back to the past DL reports to keep track of all the injuries. Let’s take a look at some of the key fantasy players on the disabled list entering week three.

Week Six:

Pitchers

Injury

Expected Return

Fantasy Implications

Hyun-Jin Ryu (SP)

Shoulder

Mid-to-Late May

Ryu is dealing with inflammation and the Dodgers aren’t going to pursue an MRI. Owners should start feeling relieved, as this appears to be only a two to three week DL stint.

Tony Cingrani (SP)

Shoulder

Mid-to-Late May

Cingrani didn’t want to be put on the disabled list, but the Reds did the right thing here. No reason for him to pitch through any sort of discomfort. Assuming he has no setbacks, Cingrani should be back in a couple of weeks.

Jim Henderson (RP)

Shoulder

Unknown

Well, so much for him regaining the closer’s role. K-Rod is rolling and Henderson just imploded. Now he is out with shoulder inflammation. If you have decent waiver wire options available, Henderson is expendable.

Matt Cain (SP)

Finger

Mid May

Cain has a cut on his finger and he shouldn’t be out longer than the minimum DL time.

Brandon Morrow (SP)

Hand

July

Morrow has a torn tendon in his hand and his season may be over. AL owners can likely move on if need be.

Tyler Chatwood (SP)

Elbow

July

Unfortunately for Chatwood, his elbow strain will cost him quite a bit of time. He is expected to be out at least through June.

Mike Pelfrey (SP)

Groin

Unknown

Pelfrey is making his way back from a groin injury. That’s really all I feel like saying about Mike Pelfrey.

Michael Pineda (SP)

Teres Major Muscle (Upper Back/Lower Shoulder)

Early June

Welp. That was fun while it lasted. This injury, as you may have heard, is similar to that of Clayton Kershaw’s. It can be classified as a shoulder injury, although teams may not admit it. We know about Pineda’s past shoulder woes, so this is troublesome. P.S. Jose Campos isn’t healthy either. The Montero/Pineda trade has essentially produced -1.0 fWAR. Awesome.

Others on the DL: Bruce Chen (back), J.J. Putz (forearm)

Hitters

Injury

Expected Return

Fantasy Implications

Ryan Braun (OF)

Oblique

Mid May

Braun couldn’t get healthy quick enough, so he lands on the DL. It is retroactive to April 27th, so there is some hope that Braun won’t be out too much longer.

Jason Kipnis (2B)

Oblique

Late May/June

Oof. Kipnis has a pretty severe oblique strain and is expected to miss at least a month. We know these types of injuries can be quite pesky, but let’s hope for a smooth recovery.

Jay Bruce (OF)

Knee

June

Bruce tore his meniscus and had surgery. He has been having a tough season already, and this makes it that much worse.

David Freese (3B)

Finger

Late May

Freese has a fractured finger, but he could come back as soon as eligible.

Ryan Sweeney (OF)

Hamstring

Late May/Early June

Sweeney’s hurt, Ruggiano’s hurts, and Kris Bryant exists. The strikeouts are an issue, but Bryant is doing everything else to force the Cubs to consider him come June.

Adam Eaton (OF)

Hamstring

Mid-to-Late May

First the left, now the right hamstring, Eaton will miss at least a couple of weeks. After back-to-back leg issues, maybe the White Sox give Eaton a little extra time to get fully healthy.

Others on the DL:
Jason Giambi
