Welcome to the sixteenth week of the Fix DL Report. Each week I (@Rich_Migs) will cover significant fantasy baseball injuries. As the season continues, the report will address some of the most recent injuries and their fantasy implications

OUT FOR THE SEASON: Patrick Corbin, Brandon Beachy, Kris Medlen, Jarrod Parker, Cory Luebke, Bruce Rondon, Bobby Parnell, Jameson Taillon, Avisail Garcia, Matt Moore, Maicer Izturis, Ivan Nova, A.J. Griffin, Jose Fernandez, Martin Perez, Prince Fielder, Chris Withrow, Gavin Floyd, C.C. Sabathia, Bronson Arroyo

PLAYERS TO WATCH (Not on DL/DL Updates): Jordan Zimmermann (groin), Homer Bailey (knee), Aroldis Chapman (hamstring), Alexei Ramirez (back), Adam Eaton (ankle), Skip Schumaker (head), Alex Gordon (wrist), Hanley Ramirez (shoulder), Coco Crisp (neck), Tommy Medica (groin), Brandon Belt (back),Desmond Jennings (knee)

  • Zimmermann may avoid the DL since the MRI showed only a strain, but I would expect some timed missed.
  • Bailey is trying to turn around a disappointing results-oriented season. The team is expecting him to be fine and pitch after the All-Star break is over without missing a start.
  • Skip Schumaker is returning from a concussion and is expected to gain a lot of playing time due to the injury that occurred to Brandon Phillips.
  • Hanley Ramirez’s shoulder is acting up again and owners should be worried. His shoulder became a problem this season during the middle of June. Hanley’s last home run was June 17th.

What a brutal first half as far as health goes. And it ended with fury (Argh, Tanaka!).

Here is week fifteen’s DL report. I will be doing my best to avoid too much repetition each week, so be sure to refer back to the past DL reports to keep track of all the injuries. Let’s take a look at some of the key fantasy players on the disabled list entering the week.

Week Sixteen:

Pitchers

Injury

Expected Return

Fantasy Implications

Masahiro Tanaka (SP)

Elbow

Late August

The New York Yankees, and really, any baseball fan, will be hoping Tanaka returns to the mound fully healed with no need for surgery. Unfortunately, Tanaka has a slight tear in his UCL. The hope is that he can rehab it, but more often than not, this leads to Tommy John surgery.

C.J. Wilson (SP)

Ankle

Mid-August

Wilson has struggled as of late, so whether or not the injury is directly related; it will give him some time to get it back together. Hector Santiago will remain in the rotation for now.

Ubaldo Jiminez (SP)

Ankle

Late July/Early August

Jiminez hasn’t been able to recapture his 2013 form and I’m not sure the rehab assignment is going to help him turn things around.

Collin McHugh (SP)

Finger

Late July

McHugh should only miss a start or two. He’s been a splendid waiver wire addition.

Jason Vargas (SP)

Appendix

Mid-August

Bruce Chen is back! Hopefully Vargas can recover quickly from his appendectomy. He’s been a very pleasant surprise for fantasy owners (as well as the Royals…I would think).

Hitters

Injury

Expected Return

Fantasy Implications

Yadier Molina (C)

Thumb

September/Out for the Season

Molina had a torn ligament in his thumb that needed surgery. Obviously this is immensely disappointing. Molina could very well miss the rest of the season.

Brandon Phillips (2B)

Thumb

Late August/September

Phillips’s thumb had slightly more encouraging news than Molina’s, but it is still more bad news for the banged up Reds. Skip Shumaker should be making some starts at second base and is an NL-only, deep league pickup.

Adam Lind (OF)

Foot

August

Lind has received a few different return times for his fractured foot, but it looks like he will return some time in the early part of August.

Carlos Beltran (OF)

Head

Late July

Beltran always wanted to be a Yankee, but it really hasn’t been a joy rise thus far. He was injured during batting practice, which saw him get facial fractures and a concussion. This to go along with his knee and elbow woes and poor offensive production…this marriage could be going better.

Others on the DL: Michael Saunders (oblique), Collin Cowgill (nose/thumb), Alberto Callaspo (hamstring)
