Daily Fantasy Baseball Strategy: April 17, 2016

Below we’ve got a discussion of the starting pitching situation as well as the best teams to use for stacks for Friday night’s ten-game slate. We’ve also added a few quick tutorials for you to check out from our partners at RotoQL to help guide your research for today’s games. To learn more about RotoQL or to take a look at the packages they have to offer, please follow this link – it will truly help you become a better daily fantasy baseball player.

The weather outlook isn’t as bad today as it was yesterday, but be sure to check your sources for weather updates prior to lineup locks to make sure all of your players will get some play. Many times you can follow each team’s Twitter feed, but I think Kevin Roth really does a fine job and think you could give him a follow if you don’t already.

PITCHING PERSPECTIVE

[cointent_lockedcontent article_labels=”baseball”]

With a 14-game slate on the docket we have more than a handful of decent pitching options to select from. There are only two pitchers that come in more than $10,000 (Kluber/Tananka), but we have six hurlers above the $9,000 threshold with more than a handful of value arms to mix-and-match.

Jon Lester is the biggest favorite of the day for the Cubs at -255. The run total is the lowest of the day and the wind is blowing in at Wrigley – two of primary keys to rostering an arm in cash games. The Rockies aren’t great against lefties with a .297 wOBA, a strikeout rate north of 22% and they are dead last in baseball in terms of wRC+ (68) since the start of 2015. Lester will likely be highly owned in tournaments, but could be the cornerstone of your cash lineups.

The obvious pivot from Lester would be Masahiro Tanaka. He’s the only other arm over $10,000 at just $10,300. The Mariners are going just about all lefty against Tanaka, but are just league average against RHP with a 100 wRC+. Another game with a low game total of 8 and Tanaka is the -145 favorite at home.

Matt Moore is an interesting tournament play at home as a slight favorite against the White Sox. Since the start of ‘15, the White Sox 29th in the league in terms of wOBA with a .293 mark and a 76 wRC+. The run total sits at just 7.5 which is one of the lowest on the slate and Moore will cost you just $7,900 on DraftKings. Juan Nicasio could be in for a bounce back game against a Brewers’ “B” lineup on Sunday. He can induce the strikeouts and comes in at just $6,600. Kris Medlen, Jhoulys Chacin and Robbie Erlin are the last of the arms I’m considering on Sunday.

STACK OPTIONS

Tampa Bay Rays – Tournament option in Tampa today. The Rays are right-handed against the lefty Jose Quintana from 1-5.

San Diego Padres – Another low total at home against the Diamondbacks and lefty Patrick Corbin. Finally a chance for right-handers Matt Kemp, Wil Myers and Melvin Upton to get the platoon advantage. Important to check lineups on this game as they played a bunch of extra innings last evening.

Feel free to stack the Astros, Tigers and Angels. Nice totals, but will cost you plenty.
