Fantasy Baseball Final: May 17, 2015

Welcome to the TheFantasyFix.com’s nightly fantasy baseball recap, where you’ll find updates on bullpen usage, lineup construction, injuries, and transactions. No matter the format, we have everything you need to know to help you win your league.

If you read only one thing…

On Sunday afternoon, Shelby Miller had the first near no-hitter of the baseball season. Miller carried his no-hitter right up through eight and two thirds before surrendering a single up the middle to Justin Bour. Miller managed to get out of the 9th after giving up another single and finished the game with a complete game shutout beating the Marlins 6-0. After a fantastic start to the season, Miller is a perfect sell high candidate right now for owners. Coming into the game, Miller had the lowest BABIP of all qualified starters. Miller’s K/BB ratio currently stands at 39 strikeouts with 15 walks. This all could be indicative of trouble down the road for Miller after a phenomenal two start week for owners.

Just as we expected…

Chris Archer turned in another strong start beating the Twins 11-3 on Sunday. Archer’s strikeout total was down from previous starts only having four Ks on the afternoon but still turned in six solid innings. Archer battled out of trouble in the bottom of the first inning after surrendering his only earned run following a Joe Mauer single to knock in Brian Dozier. Archer settled in over the next five innings and limited the Twins to only four total hits. Archer has been much more consistent over the first month and a half of the season as he has a 10.21 K/9. He will continue to be a strong option for daily fantasy players every time out.

Noah Syndergaard picked up his first major league win of his career defeating the anemic Brewers’ offense on Sunday. Syndergaard went six innings striking out five and only walking one after bouncing back nicely from his rocky debut on Tuesday against the Cubs. Syndergaard was able to pound the strike zone and locate well throughout his outing. Brewers’ star Carlos Gomez had a scary moment in the top of the sixth inning after being hit in the helmet by Syndergaard, but he looks like he will avoid a concussion. Gomez is currently listed as day to day with just a facial contusion.

But we didn’t see this coming…

James Paxton turned in another solid start for the Mariners on Sunday defeating the Red Sox 5-0. The Mariners salvaged a split in their four game home set against the Red Sox over the weekend. Paxton turned in eight innings of shutout baseball and now has four straight quality starts. Paxton has not had the high strikeout totals some projected coming into the season but is now delivering for the Mariners on a much more consistent basis. Paxton is an interesting pickup option in all season long formats.

RUMORS & TRANSACTIONS

-The biggest news of Sunday comes out of Miami where the Marlins relieved manager Mike Redmond of his duties. The team is set to announce his replacement at 11 AM on Monday.

-Rumors are still swirling regarding Troy Tulowitzki’s status with the Rockies. Most reports have suggested that Tulowitzki has not formally requested a trade but that the team may be seeking one at the very least.
