Fantasy Baseball Final: May 23, 2015

Article written by Max Hadelman, but he’s off the grid so I’m posting this on his behalf.

Cole Hamels pitched on Saturday, and pitched very well. Hamels went eight innings for the Phillies, and he picked up his 5th win of the season, and 4th in a row. Matt Harvey was on the mound for the Mets as they took on the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he had his worst outing of the season. He allowed seven earned runs on just four innings of work, and has yet to earn a win in four consecutive starts. Mike Napoli hit two home runs against the Angels and now has three bombs in the past two games. Prince Fielder continues to take advantage of the short porch at Yankee Stadium with another home run as he has three home runs in the past two games as well and is really heating up for the Rangers, who likely get Josh Hamilton back on Monday. Joc Pederson continues to rake in his rookie season, hitting his 12th home run so far this season in the first inning off of Ian Kennedy.

If you only read one thing…

Pitching ruled Saturday across the MLB, as there were many tremendous performances. Mike Wright was good again for the Orioles Saturday, but had a no decision because the game went into extra innings. CC Sabathia, however, got shelled for the Yankees, as the Rangers got 15 runs. Sabathia had the worst outing Saturday amongst starters, but there were some relievers that tan in to trouble as well. It continues to be hard to predict what pitchers are going to do these days, which makes it hard to play match ups.

Just As We Expected…

Anthony Rizzo continues to be a monster for the Cubs in the middle of the lineup, as he hit a home run and drove in six runs against the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Rizzo is the best player in Chicago this season and will need to continue to be if they are wanting to make any noise in the playoffs.

But We Didn’t See This Coming…

Mike Bolsinger was spectacular for the Dodgers on Saturday. He went eight innings while allowing just one hit and walking none, striking out eight batters against the Padres. The Dodgers won 2-0, as Bolsinger picked up the win and Kenley Jansen picked up his second save. Jansen has now pitched three innings and has yet to allow a hit and has not walked anyone either. Bolsinger is definitely worth a look in all formats, especially as he continues to pitch like he did Saturday. Also, Lance McCullers was fantastic against a very potent Tigers lineup, which also came as a surprise.

Save Chances…

Kenley Jansen appears to be better than good for the Dodgers, as he earned his second save of the season Saturday, and has still yet to allow a hit or a walk in three outings since coming off of the disabled list.

Luke Gregerson has turned into a good fantasy closer with the surprising emergence of the Houston Astros. He picked up another save with the Astros 3-2 win over the Tigers.

Glen Perkins picked up his 16th save of the season Saturday for the Twins, as they defeated the White Sox in Minnesota. Perkins allowed a couple of base runners, a walk and a hit to be exact, but struck out two, including the final out of the game.

Fernando Rodney, Santiago Casilla, John Axford, Pedro Strop, and Cody Allen all recorded saves as well.

Injury Report…

Yasiel Puig felt tightness in his hamstring while running on Friday, and the team officials have said that there is yet to be a timetable for his recovery. It could very well be a couple more weeks before we see Yasiel Puig in a Dodgers uniform.
