Week 15: Feb 2-8

Although fantasy football finished weeks ago, with the college National Championship a couple of weeks ago and the Super Bowl just finishing up this past Sunday, we can officially say that it’s basketball season. For at least a couple of weeks, Basketball is in the spotlight in the sports world.

4 Games: ATL, BOS, BKN, CHA, CLE, DAL, DET, GS, LAC, MEM, MIL, MIN, NO, OKC, ORL, PHI, PHO, POR, SAC, TOR, UTA, WSH

3 Games: CHI, DEN, HOU, IND, LAL, MIA, NY, SA

On Fire:

Zach Randolph: Since returning from injury January 9th at New Orleans, Z-Bo has put together 12 straight double-doubles and Memphis is 10-2 in that stretch. Randolph has been one of the more consistent players in fantasy basketball over the past few years, being a very reliable rebounder and scorer. His scoring is a little down with the emerging Mike Conley and Marc Gasol, but he is fully capable of putting up big lines just as he did Saturday against the Thunder (21 points-18 rebounds). Since returning from injury he is averaging 19.3 points and 13.9 rebounds per game while shooting 56% from the floor.

Hassan Whiteside: Talk about making a name for yourself. Whiteside was available for any team to sign and add to their team in November and now he has been one of the most key players on the Miami Heat in recent weeks. Although it’s still to be determined whether or not that’s a good thing, Whiteside has been able to take advantage of his opportunities to get in to the Heat lineup. Friday night on national TV against the Bulls, Whiteside had his first career triple double posting 14 points, 13 rebound and 12 BLOCKS! It’s not too often someone gets a triple-double with one of the categories being blocks. He’s been a rebounding machine as of late, but most of his value comes from the shot blocking category.

Ice-Cold:

Tobias Harris: This doesn’t look good for the former Tennessee Volunteer. He missed time with an injury and has scored less than ten points in four of six games he’s played in. Harris is struggling big time for the Magic and doesn’t seem to be too happy coming off the bench, which is where he currently is at the moment. I’m not advising anyone to drop Tobias yet, but he’s definitely moved from a lock starter in weekly lineups to a definite benching.

Jeff Green: Although this isn’t all because of him and the way he has played necessarily, he is still featured as ice cold this week because of his role change and what he suddenly means an a fantasy player. Saturday against OKC was the first time Green has played 32 minutes or more in a Memphis uniform, and he had eight points and two rebounds. Although Green will likely give his owners a game or two here and there where it makes them not want to get rid of him, he is a role player at best with Memphis.

Stream options:

D.J. Augustin: With the injury to Brandon Jennings, Augustin has been thrown into the starting point guard role and done a decent job. His first start he had 35 points and 8 assists, 19 points and 9 assists his second time out, before going 0/7 from he field and being held to just two points. After that game it appeared that Augustin wasn’t going to be someone that you could rely on for consistency as a point guard every game, however, he put that to rest posting 28-12 on Saturday. If he’s still available in your league, you need to get him.

Wayne Ellington: The Lakers are realizing what life without Kobe is going to be like for the rest of the season and really for the next few years if they cant get any big names to come to Los Angeles once Kobe calls it quits. Wayne Ellington is trying to step into the starting lineup and provide something for the Lakers that they need to not be the laughing stock of the NBA, and so far, he’s done a pretty good job. His shot attempts have soared and his minutes have obviously risen as well. Since Kobe’s injury, Ellington has had just one poor outing when given a big load of minutes.

Terrence Jones: Jones was drafted and owned in most leagues before he went down with his injury. Since then, the Rockets have signed veteran Josh Smith to pad their rotation in his absence, but it’s only a matter of time before Jones begins to play more than the 20 minutes per game that he’s been playing. He’s worth a pickup if he’s available just to see if he can produce anything like he was before he went down, especially in leagues deeper than 10 teams.

Kevin Martin: There’s a chance that K-Mart is already owned in your league, whether it’s because the person that owned him before his injury never dropped him or because he’s now back from his shoulder injury. In three games with the Wolves since returning from injury, Martin is averaging 18.0 points. Although his field goal percentage is way down, that will likely change as he gets a feel for the game again in the near future.

Jarrett Jack: Deron Williams is supposed to come back from injury soon, so this may not be for too long, but Jack is worth adding at least until Deron Williams comes back from his rib injury. In the last two weeks, Jack is averaging 17.6 points and 8.8 assists per game making him a viable option at PG.

Injury Report:

James Harden is day-to-day with a bruised left knee. This shouldn’t be too concerning considering he returned to the court that game, but it still should be something to somewhat monitor to make sure it’s getting better and not worse.

John Wall might miss Monday’s game against the Hornets because of an Achilles injury. He was not a participant in shootaround and fought through the injury Saturday and had 28 points and 12 assists. Wall is going to be okay, just make sure he plays Monday before you have him in your lineup.

Victor Oladipo will test his Achilles injury to see how it feels on Monday. Having missed so many games this season I’m sure he will be eager to get back on the floor and not miss any more time, however, he understands how important it is to not rush back too quickly.

Jordan Hill suffered a hip flexor injury in Sunday’s game and will likely miss a couple of weeks.

Dwyane Wade has a strained hamstring and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks, or maybe longer because of the NBA All-Star break coming up. Look for Wade to be out a significant amount of time.

Luol Deng has missed the last three games due to a calf injury but he thinks he will be able to suit up Wednesday against the Pistons. According to Deng he could have played the past three games, but he was held out of action by the training staff. It looks like it will ultimately be their call when he returns, which still makes him questionable for Wednesday.

Kelly Olynyk will not return to the Celtics lineup until after the All-star break with his ankle injury.

DeMarre Carroll has missed the last two games with general soreness in his body and is questionable for Monday’s game against the Pelicans. The Hawks continue to role regardless of who’s in their lineup which would allow Carroll to be able to rest a little bit longer is need be.

Kemba Walker had successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

Jrue Holiday is still battling an ankle injury and should return in the next week or two.
