Wednesday’s DFS NBA Plays 1/15

Unlike Tuesday, there are many more players to choose from in tonight’s slate of games. With a 12-game night like tonight, there’s no possible way I can run through each game and give you multiple players from each. It would take up too much time to write as well as read. Let’s attack this from a new way tonight. I’m going to give you 2-3 players from each position that should be considered for your DFS lineups.

Point Guard

Darren Collison is not the sexy pick by any means tonight, but he comes at a nice mid-range price ($5,700) and has a nice matchup. Dallas ranks middle of the pack against the point guard in their last ten games and Collison has already gone for 20/3/4 in 35 minutes against them earlier this season. In four games since then, Collison is average 6.5 assists and 2.25 steals per game. Collison has had plenty of time to gel with the Clippers and another nice shooting night should put him at mid 30s points.

I’m not a huge fan of the high priced guards tonight due to the studs available at the other positions, so I’m leaning towards another mid-range guy like Kendall Marshall. He’s priced at $6,100 tonight and faces a Suns team that is in the bottom ten against point guards in their last ten games. If you played Marshall night then you were ecstatic about his 39-fantasy point game. Last night marked his second double double in a row and he’s looking to extend that streak to three against the Suns.

Shooting Guard

It’s pretty easy to sit here and tell someone to play a stud, but someone’s got to do it right? James Harden is one stud to really consider tonight. He wasn’t getting to the free throw line as much against the Celtics, but tonight against the Pelicans that should change. The Pelicans are giving up 6.3 free throw attempts per game in their last ten, which ranks them last in the league. Harden is very aggressive to the basket right now and it can be seen by 5 of his last 6 games of 42 fantasy points or more. Included in those 5 games are 3 games of mid to high 50s.

To combat a high-priced player like Harden, you could easily go a guy like Gerald Green tonight against the Lakers. What does Gerald Green do well? He makes threes. Well, tonight against the Lakers he’ll be facing a team that gives up the third worst three-point field goal percentage to shooting guards. Green is only priced at $4,100 and showed the other night that he can put up 20+ points and not make a lot of shots. He has 16 rebounds in his last two games and the Suns are really letting him shoot a lot. He has 33 shot attempts in his last two games.

Courtney Lee had a monster night last night scoring 24 real points and adding 5 rebounds against the Thunder. He is priced at $3,600 tonight and although I like him tonight, there’s little chance that he scores 24 again. He’s one of my favorite value plays going into a night with a lot of stars because of the way he fills the stat sheet and I think he’ll do more of that then just straight up scoring. Make sure Tony Allen is out if you want to play Lee.

Small Forward

This next pick is maybe a little too obvious, so I’ll be throwing an extra small forward in this area. LeBron James should be heavily considered tonight. He was quoted this week saying that he was jealous of Kevin Durant’s shot attempt numbers. In his last ten games, James has put up 20+ attempts four times. In those four games, his fantasy totals are 51, 47, 56, and 63. Those are huge numbers and if you’re into reading quotes and playing hunches then James is the ultimate hunch play tonight against the Wizards.

I very rarely use Rudy Gay, but tonight is a night to really consider him against the Timberwolves. The T-Wolves rank second to last against small forwards and Gay has been playing very well lately. Paul George and the Pacers shut him down last night, but before that went for 35+ in four straight games with a 44 and 47 fantasy point games mixed in. It also nice to see that the total for this game is 216 points which ranks as the highest as of right now.

Terrence Jones is not a small forward, but he is small forward eligible and a discount tonight ($5,700), so I’m rolling with it. In 3 of his last 4 games, he has put up 32+ fantasy points. Jones had a nice stat line against the Pelicans earlier this season going for 17/8/2/0/3. To combat some of those high-priced players, going Jones at this price is a huge advantage.

Power Forward

Ever since the CP3 injury, Blake Griffin has been on a tear. In his last 10 games, he has three 40-point games, four 50-point games, and a 65-point game. Overall, it’s nice to pay $9,500 knowing that you’re going to get at least 40 fantasy points and still have the upside of 65 fantasy points. In his last four games, Griffin is averaging 24/8/5/2 out of the power forward position. Those numbers can’t be ignored and if you’re going to fade players like Harden or James then Griffin might be that next best option.

James Johnson gives me the serious willies because of his Draftkings’ picture, so I hate looking at his game log. Tonight though, the willies are worth it because of how he has played. Like Lee, Johnson does a lot of the “other stuff” to put up his fantasy points. Johnson has only gotten 20 of his last 66 fantasy points from real points. In those 3 games, Johnson is averaging 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and almost 2 steals per game. He literally does a little bit of everything. Like Lee’s situation, make sure Tony Allen is out if you want to play Johnson.

Center

Last night, Anderson Varejao owned the Lakers. Tonight, the Suns welcome the Lakers into town and Miles Plumlee is licking his fingers at this matchup. Plumlee has averaged 11.5 points and 13 rebounds against the Lakers (2 games) while averaging only 25 minutes per game. The Lakers are the second worst team against big men and if Plumlee can get to that 30-minute mark then he could easily put up 14 and 15 tonight. Plumlee is coming off a nice 12/11/1/3/2 game against the Knicks on Monday.

I probably look like a big Joakim Noah lover, but there’s something about a guy who owns the boards that gets me excited. Noah is averaging 13.6 rebounds per game in his last 5 and he adds other stats like assists (4.4/game) and blocks (2.4/game). Noah faces the Magic who are in the bottom 10 against centers. If Nikola Vucevic is out again tonight then you must strongly consider Noah for your center position.
