2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Albert Pujols On Pace To Be Average?

Picture

Albert Pujols

Would you rather be convicted of obstruction of justice, or have a grown man inject a syringe into your belly button?  Today, Barry Bonds can give a definitive answer to that question.

The A’s and White Sox just completed their 3rd straight extra inning game, so expect some tired bullpens. That being said, if you bailed on
Andrew Bailey and picked up Brian Fuentes you are smiling today as he just picked up his 5th save in 7 games.

The “frail”
Josh Hamilton is out 6-8 weeks and blamed his coach, very classy. I do love all the commentators saying:

"Well, he must've been questioned right after learning of the injury because he is not that kind of guy."

You ever notice that nobody is EVER “that kind of guy” until they ARE that kind of guy. So let me get this straight, Josh Hamilton is not the type of guy to blame a coach for an injury/stupid play, until he blames a coach for an injury/stupid play. Also Josh, you make $8.75 million per year, if you do not think you can tag on a pop-up that is directly in front of you, don’t run. You are a big boy, act like one.

One other note on baseball commentators, I have heard more than one commentator explain that it is too early to write off the Red Sox because of the small sample size, yet in the next breath say that the Rangers will run away with the American League West. Choose a lane guys. I do not want to get into the rose-colored glasses of some east coast commentators at major media conglomerates, but, I'm just sayin'…

Speaking of fragile, the Disabled list welcomes back
Ryan Zimmerman, you’ve been missed.

The Angels may have the best 1-2 punch atop their rotation in the league after
Dan Haren cooled off the red-hot Indians with a one-hitter.  You know you have good pitching when a 0.87 ERA (Jered Weaver) is SECOND on the team to Haren’s 0.73.

On the panic front:

(1)
Albert Pujols.  Batting a whopping .200 with 1 home run and 4 RBI's, bad numbers for any big league player, but for the best player in baseball, just atrocious. You have to assume a guy that has averages of .330, 40, 120 over his first 10-season will come around. But what if the lack of a contract really is affecting him? Also, he has never had an average season, let alone a bad season, doesn't it have to happen at some point?

(2)
Derek Jeter.  I don't think anyone was expecting a huge fantasy year from him, but a bounce back would've been nice.  I'm sure the Yankees want him to 3000 hits as soon as possible, then they will suggest he spend more time with his girlfriend Minka Kelly. Better question, what happens first – Jeter's 3,000th hit or the cancellation of Minka's yet to air new show?

Finally,
Asdrubal Cabrera: 4 home runs in 10 games; 3 home runs in 97 games last year. Someone please check to see if he ordered a larger hat this year and if he, um, downsized his jockstrap.
