2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Braves’ Chipper Jones Joins The 2,500 Hit Club

It’s funny. I never realized until now how much Manny sounded like Druggy. The one-time Yankee killer, Manny Ramirez,  has called it quits rather than serve a 100-game suspension. This would have been Manny's second suspension after serving a 50 game sentence is 2009.

Another Ramirez, Hanley, left Friday’s night game in the 7th inning with a leg injury. Hopefully we will have an update early today, but this is NOT good news for a player who was taken as the first pick in many leagues.

Boston finally got their first win at the expense of their hated rival the New York Yankees. Phil Hughes is clearly not looking like the 18-game winner he somehow managed last year. (2 IP / 7H / 6 ER / 0 K). Carl Crawford returned to the top of the lineup and went 0-5. It’s becoming more clear that Crawford took the $142 million dollars and bought a clone who has yet to to figure out the game of baseball.

Cliff Lee definitely did not win the pitching battle of the night against Tim Hudson as he got lit up for six runs in only 3.1 innings. Go get yourself a cheesesteak to take away the pain Mr. Lee.

Chipper Jones went 2/4 with a double, three runs batted in and collected his 2,500th career hit against Cliff Lee and the Phillies. With three more RBIs, Chipper will join Eddie Murray as the only switch-hitters to collect 2,500 hits and 1,500 RBIs.

Brian Roberts was taken to the hospital after experiencing extreme stomach pains. Roberts didn’t listen to us when we told him it was a bad idea to go on a 24-hour Phillips Crabhouse binge. Best be listening to the Fix next time!

Carlos Gonzalez, Dan Uggla and Carl Crawford collected paychecks worth a combined $284 million dollars this past offseason. Yesterday, they failed to collect a hit, going a combined 0/16.

Kyle Drabek earned his second straight quality start in Anaheim against the Angels. Line: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, ND

Jon Rauch (2), Kyle Farnsworth (1), Joe Nathan (3), Jose Valverde (2), Leo Nunez (2), Jonathan Papelbon (1), Carlos Marmol (3) and Carig Kimbrel (3) each earned saves.

Matt Thornton of the White Sox has blown two consecutive saves. He gave up five runs in the ninth against the Rays, and lucky for Thornton owners, all were unearned. Chris Sale figures to be the next in line if Ozzie were to make a change. Sale is available is more than 50% of Y! leagues.

Tiger Tiger Woods Y’all. After being called out in the opening speech of The Masters by some shmo, Woods shot a 66 Friday and is tied for 3rd. Six year old Rory Mcllroy is in the lead at -10.
