2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Dee Gordon Summoned, Anthony Rizzo Is “Close”

Two-time Cy Young Award winner, Tim Lincecum, struck out Jerry Hairston, Jr. to become just the eighth MLB pitcher to strike out 1,000 batters in just five seasons.

The Need For Speed: The Dodgers called up super-prospect Dee Gordon to be the everyday shortstop while Rafael Furcal is on the disabled list. In has last two full MiLB (A &AA) seasons, Gordon swiped 73 and 53 bags respectively.

Anthony Rizzo, one of the key pieces the San Diego Padres received when they sent Adrian Gonzalez to the Boston Red Sox, appears to be “ close” to a promotion. The slugging first basemen is torturing pitchers in the hitter friendly Pacific Coast League with a triple slash line of .363/.444/.715. Additionally, Rizzo is second in the PCL with 16 moon shots and fourth in the league with 63 runs batted in.

Eric Hosmer played hero Monday night with an RBI single in the 11th inning to lift the Royals over the Blue Jays, 3-2. Hosmer finished the night 2-for-5 with a walk, a run scored and two RBIs.

Cliff Lee sizzled in seven shutout innings against the Dodgers last evening. Lee fanned ten on the way to his fifth win of the season for the Phillies.

Congratulations to John Danks for earning his first win of the 2011 season. It’s about time you give all those “Buy Low” people something to rap about.

Hanley Ramirez finally hit the DL yesterday with back issues. Since the move is retroactive to May 30th, Ramirez will be eligible to return a week from today. The aforementioned Dee Gordon may be worth a look at the shallow shortstop position until Hanley returns.

Nelson Cruz has blasted six homers and knocked in twelve runs in the past ten games. Hope he can stay healthy.

Brewers’ first basemen Prince Fielder crushed his 16th homer and knocked in his National League leading 49th run in a 7-2 win over the Marlins.

Dante Bichette, Jr., out of Orangewood Christian High School, was selected by the Yankees with the 51st pick of MLB’s Amateur Draft yesterday.

Charlie Blackmon is another prospect that appears to be heading to the bigs. The Rockies outfielder has his bags packed and looks to provide the spark that Dexter Fowler has not been able to do.

Huston Street (16), Sergio Santos (11), Matt Capps  (8), Ryan Madson (13) and Kevin Gregg (11) each earned saves last night.

Pitching duels I am looking forward to today, Tuesday 6/7: Jon Lester (BOS) vs. Freddy Garcia (NYY), Felix Hernandez (SEA) vs. Phil Humber (CSW) and Jordan Zimmerman (WAS) vs. Jonathan Sanchez (SFG).
