2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Jaime Garcia Bounces Back Big Over The Cubs

Jaime Garcia

Jaime Garcia easily bounced back from one of the worst pitching performances ever. He ate the baby Cubs for breakfast, allowing 4 hits, 1 run and striking out 8. Lance Berkman and Albert Pujols had his back, both going yard.

Jered Weaver is back on track as well, getting his first win since April 25th. He went seven strong innings against the Pinstripes allowing only 3 hits while striking out 8.

Spitting in the face of our Senior Analyst Brett Talley, Alexi Ogando keeps winning. It’s not only that Ogando keeps winning, he’s doing it in fine fashion. For the 7th time 11 games, he has held the opponent to 1 run or less. Texas won their 2nd straight at Cleveland behind Ogando (8IP, 4H, 1ER, 6K).

J.P. Arencibia hit his 9th home run of the season in an 8-4 win over the O’s. Zach Britton didn’t bring his A game and gave up 5 earned runs. Britton’s given up 14 earned runs and 25 hits in the last 3 games. Ouch.

Cole Hamels continues his dominating season. Hamels pitched eight innings and only gave up 1 hit (3BB). Philadelphia won 2-1 in the 12th inning, so Hamels was denied what would have been his league leading 8th win.

Milwaukee’s big bats know when to show themselves. Ryan Braun pinch hit a 2-run homer in the 9th off of Leo Nunez to give the Brew Crew the win. Prince Fielder (12), Gaby Sanchez (10), and Mike Stanton (13) all homered also. Mr. Moustache, (John Axford) walked 3, but still earned his 14th save.

Jacoby Ellsbury (20), Coco Crisp (18) and Rajai Davis (16) all had steals.

The 1-2 punch of Venters and Kimbrel were at it again last night against the Mets. Venters picked up his 4th W and Kimbrel notched his 17th save. Also, Jose Reyes hit his 9th triple ( 3 more than anyone else in the league).

Arizona’s Josh Collmenter is easily the waiver wire pickup of the week. At home, against Washington he didn’t let any National touch home plate in the 4-0 win. Since becoming a starting pitcher, Collmenter has only given up 4 runs in 5 games. His next 3 starts are solid against the Bucs, Giants and Royals.

Heath Bell personally thanked Jim Dingeman for putting him on top of the Closer Report top 25 list. Bell earned his 15th save against Houston.

Jason Vargas pitched his 1st career shutout against the Rays (although in May against the O’s he pitched 9 scoreless innings, but Seattle lost in extra innings). Justin Smoak hit another home run, his 4th in the last 6 games. Smoak better learn how to hit more than home runs though, he only has 7 multi-hit games and his last was 11 games ago (hence the .249 Avg.).

There are some amazing pitching matchups today: Trevor Cahill @Josh Beckett, Randy Wells @Kyle Lohse, Clayton Kershaw @Johnny Cueto, Jhoulys Chacin @Madison Bumgarner, Jair Jurrjens @Dillon Gee.

Also going tonight is CC Sabathia, Yovani Gallardo, Justin Verlander, Ricky Romeo, Jeremy Hellickson, and Derek Holland.
