Roy Halladay

Roy Halladay easily outdueled Carlos Zambrano last night, not allowing any runs and striking out nine, to become the league’s first 9 game winner. Zambrano gave up seven runs over 6.1 innings. Domonic Brown hit his 2nd home run of the year.

Ivan Nova won his 5th game of the year over the Indians. He’s halfway to my preseason prediction of double digit wins. Curtis Granderson hit his 19th bomb of the year and only trails Jose Bautista (20). Carlos Santana hit a homer but was also responsible for 5 Pinstripe stolen bases. The Indians are now only 1 game up on the Tigers.

Dillon Gee continues to roll, improving to 7-0 on the season, with the win over the Bucs. Gee has won his last five starts and over that stretch has a 2.04 ERA & 0.85 WHIP.

Jake Arrieta shut down Tampa to the tune of 2 hits and zero runs over 7 innings and winning his 8th game of the season, while Jeremy Hellickson got rocked giving up 5 runs in 5.2 innings. Nick Markakis had a monster game, hitting a grand slam and a 2 run double.

Justin Smoak (11) continues to struggle at the plate but at least the few hits he gets are for home runs.

Boston won their 7th straight game last night. With the Yankees winning, the Sox are still 2 games up.

Anibal Sanchez improved to 6-1, taking down Arizona last night. He is 6th in the NL with 87 K’s. Mike Stanton backed up his boy, hitting his 15th homer and second night in a row.

The Braves didn't seem to realize they are without two of their major stars (Heyward & Prado). Chipper Jones, Freddie Freeman, Alex Gonzalez & Eric Hinske all homered in the 11-4 win over Houston.

Chris Narveson and the Brew Crew blanked the Cards 8-0. Narveson threw 8 innings and struck out 6. Ryan Braun (14) & Corey Hart (6) both homered.

Chad Billingsley got skewered by the Rockies, giving up 6 runs and 13 hits in only 4.2 innings. Billingsley stands with a non-impressive 4.13 ERA & 1.44 WHIP on the season. Jhoulys Chacin on the other hand threw 8 innings on scoreless ball, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 9. Matt Kemp hit his NL leading 19th home run off Matt Belisle in the 9th.

Jason Marquis improved to 7-2 in the win over Mat Latos (4-7) and the Padres. Michael Morse provided the run support hitting his 10th on the year.

Melky Cabrera has really grown into an amazing player this year. Melky hit his 9th homer and stole his 8th bag against the Angels. Joakim Soria pitched a perfect 9th for his 9th save and 2nd since regaining the closer role.

Although he didn’t receive a decision, Ryan Vogelsong put out another solid performance against the Reds, only allowing 2 runs over 6 innings. His season ERA stands at 1.81.

There are a ton of great pitching matchups today: Colby Lewis @Scott Baker, Matt Garza @Cliff Lee, Mike Leake @Tim Lincecum, Michael Pineda @Max Scherzer, Mike Minor @Jordan Lyles, Chris Carpenter @Zack Greinke, Ian Kennedy @Javier Vazquez, Gio Gonzalez @John Danks. Also rolling today is David Price, James McDonald, Brandon Morrow & Bartolo Colon.
