2011 Fantasy Football, Previews & Predictions: Isaac Redman Could Surprise In Week Five

Fantasy football gets a little tougher this week with the arrival of the first bye weeks, but I enjoy that because I think that is an advantage for the better owners in each league.

Be aware of the waiver wire because you may need to pick up a couple players to fill in for your guys on a bye. Normally, I don't like to rely on a guy I picked up on waivers to play right away because that means you are counting on somebody that no one else in your league wanted just a week ago. But if you have a couple receivers or running backs out on a bye during the same week, you may need to grab someone and insert him right away and making the right pick could be the difference between winning and losing.

If your kicker or defense are on a bye, you probably don't have a backup and will have to look at match-ups to see which free agents will provide the best one-week boost for your team.

Similarly, you may have to choose between your No. 3 and No. 4 running backs if you have one on a bye, and that could also be the difference between winning and losing. If you didn't look at bye weeks before the season and drafted Peyton Hillis and Ray Rice, you're going to have to start a couple guys normally on your bench this week.

We will try to help you make those key decisions for week 5.

Tennessee at Pittsburgh: I've said it before, but I think this is the week Chris Johnson really takes off. He can't be as average as he's been all season and Pittsburgh's defense is not as good as usual, so Johnson should get over 100 yards and a couple scores. Nate Washington is a solid fill-in on a bye week and still could be available in some leagues. I'm not a big fan of Ben Roethlisberger and Rashard Mendenhall on most weeks and with their injuries, they are probably best left on the bench. Mike Wallace is a good play as always and Antonio Brown is worth a pick-up off the waiver wire. Isaac Redman is a good sleeper, especially in deeper leagues, and he could be a starter if Mendenhall has to sit out.

Seattle at New York Giants: The Giants passing game is becoming a must-play and as bad as Seattle is when it travels east, you want Eli Manning, Hakeem Nicks, and Mario Manningham in your lineup. Take Victor Cruz out, his time is up. Ahmad Bradshaw is a safe play too. I don't like any Seahawks, even Sidney Rice who is off to a solid start but probably takes a step back this week. The Giants defense is probably available in your league and is a good bet against Seattle.

Cincinnati at Jacksonville: The Cedric Benson-to-jail watch continues, but if he is a free man on Sunday, keep him in your lineup. If not, snatch up Bernard Scott. A.J. Green has become a legitimate fantasy starter even in 10-team leagues. Maurice Jones-Drew should get in the end zone a few times and both Marcedes Lewis and Mike Thomas will have their best games of the year and they could also be available in shallow leagues.

New Orleans at Carolina: This should be a shootout with both quarterbacks getting more than 25 points. Tough to know which receiver will be Drew Brees' favorite from week-to-week, but my prediction this week is for Lance Moore and Devery Henderson with Marques Colston still limited by injury. If you have Darren Sproles but have been hesitant to play him because of his limited carries, maybe you've got a running back on a bye this week and that is the perfect opportunity to get Sproles a shot in the lineup. It's amazing how quickly Cam Newton and Steve Smith have become must-play options in fantasy and Brandon LaFell could also have a big week as our bye-week filler.

Oakland at Houston: Another shootout here and a rare week where I recommend Jason Campbell as a starter. Fantasy owners have been waiting for Darrius Hayward-Bay to live up to the first-round hype and he finally came through last week. I think he could repeat that performance this week and I also like Denarius Moore as a bye-week replacement player. Darren McFadden should also post big numbers, but I don't trust Michael Bush to keep doing a lot with a little carries. Arian Foster will carry the load with Andre Johnson out of the line-up and Foster will have a huge day, nearing 150 yards and three scores. Matt Schaub will miss Andre Johnson and I don't think he's a top-10 quarterback without his top receiver. Take a flyer on Jacoby Jones to replace Johnson. As a shot in the dark, Neil Rackers could be a good kicker to add this week.

Philadelphia at Buffalo: Another Week 5 shootout and you are playing all of your Eagles obviously, with Michael Vick, LeSean McCoy, Jeremy Maclin, and DeSean Jackson likely to go big. If you need a tight end for a bye week, Clay Harbor is a nice pick up off the waiver wire. Buffalo's Scott Chandler may also be available and he's a good one to get along with receiver David Nelson, if available. Donald Jones should have another good week here while Stevie Johnson and Ryan Fitzpatrick will bounce back to their early-season form.

Kansas City at Indianapolis: Tough to predict with two bad teams, it could be a snoozer or a shootout, but I am predicting something in between. The Colts will win and Curtis Painter should have one of his best weeks of the season if you have a quarterback or two on a bye and it seems clear that Pierre Garcon is his guy. Reggie Wayne should have plenty of targets this week too and Joseph Addai has looked surprisingly nimble this season. Dexter McCluster's workload should increase and with eligibility at receiver and running back in some leagues, he could be valuable for his versatility. Steve Breaston is a good guy to pick up, but not sure I want to play him quite yet. The Colts defense should be a safe play as well.

Arizona at Minnesota: If there was ever a week you had to play Donovan McNabb, here it is. At home against a bad pass defense and the Vikings offense is actually looking better than its record shows. Percy Harvin will have one of those games you drafted him for, 160 total yards and a couple of touchdowns. My deep, deep sleeper of the week is Bernard Berrian, who may become the top waiver-wire pick-up next week after a big week against the Cardinals. Beanie Wells' owners finally got the performance we expected with him carrying a heavy workload this season and he should have another nice game while Kevin Kolb will have his best game of the season with Larry Fitzgerald as a top-four receiver this week.

Tampa Bay at San Francisco: Jim Harbaugh didn't do fantasy owners any favors last week, starting Kendall Hunter to give Frank Gore owners reason to bench their stud and then he gave Gore the game-winning touchdown. Gore looks healthy and back to being a No. 1 running back. He's the only Niner you are starting for sure, but it may be time to pick up Michael Crabtree and see if he can start to live up to his potential soon. Josh Freeman delivered the performance his owners wanted to see on Monday and he should be good again, but I worry about the Bucs traveling across the country after playing on Monday night. San Francisco's defense is a safe play this week.

New York Jets at New England: Dustin Keller will rank highest among any of the Jets at their position this week and I don't like any others in standard leagues. I think New England blows them out here with another big week as usual from Tom Brady, Wes Welker, and Rob Gronkowski. I'm not buying Steven Ridley, or any other New England running back this week.

San Diego at Denver: Vincent Jackson's nagging injuries are becoming a concern, but if he is active, he's been a big-play guy and Philip Rivers will have a nice day. Ryan Matthews is solid and I have a hunch Mike Tolbert gets back in the end zone this week. With Jackson's injuries, Patrick Crayton could be a sneaky pick-up. Willis McGahee looks to be the guys in Denver and so I'd ride him as long as you can and I think this is the week Brandon Lloyd jumps back ahead of Eric Decker as the Broncos receiver you want, although Decker should be solid again too.

Green Bay at Atlanta: This is the game Matt Ryan owners have been waiting for and if you have to play him becaue your starter is on a bye, you will be rewarded. Roddy White should have his best game of the year as well and Julio Jones will be solid again too. Michael Turner is a No. 1 running back this week as well. If you like those Falcons this week, you will really like the Packers. Aaron Rodgers may only get half of last week's total, but that is still a top quarterback and Greg Jennings will get deep at least once. Donald Driver will be a good replacement if you have a starting receiver on a bye. James Starks didn't have the game you'd hope for with Ryan Grant out and Grant could be back this week which means Starks drops even more.

Chicago at Detroit: Matthew Stafford's showcase to the nation on Monday night will result in nearly 30 points and Calvin Johnson will continue his streak of scoring at least two touchdowns in every game. Nate Burleson is a good pick-up this week and a nice play as a replacement, but I think Jahvid Best will disappoint. I also like the Lions defense because Jay Cutler will struggle. That said, if somebody in our league gave up on Roy Williams, take one last shot at him because this could be the week he finally contributes. Matt Forte is becoming a No. 1 back.
