2012 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: All about Pitching & Streaming

Picture

Wednesday night in Major League Baseball was all about pitching. All around the league guys were toeing the rubber with a purpose, decimating line-ups and racking up innings. It was also a golden night for streamers. Savvy fantasy owners were showered with opportunities.  A great night for a spot starter to help with the leaks in your line-up, or for your number 1's to saturate you with strikeouts. The Daily Fix: come for the forced piss jokes, stay for the baseball information. Very proud, looking forward to graduating third grade. Let's run down some of the performances.

First the guys you probably didn’t start. The guys you missed out on streaming, or even more infuriating, the guys you had relegated to your bench, having thrown up the white flag after taking the full kick in the teeth from the crapfest starts they’ve been nice enough to stink up your team with when activated. Yes, I am looking at you Ivan Nova, you sneaky, unpredictable, asshole.

Bartolo Colon – 16.4% owned in ESPN leagues- Bartolo went 8 IP with 2 ER and 3 K in his shutout win over the Rangers.

Ivan Nova – 34.9% owned – Ivan flashed some of the 2011 form with his 8 IP, 1 ER, 5 K win over the Rays.

Randall Delgado – 1% owned – The young Atlanta pitcher's 6.1 IP, 1 ER, 7 K,  win over Josh Johnson and the Marlins pushed his ERA down to 4.26 the second lowest mark he's had this year.

Wei-Yin Chen – 12.1% owned – Pitched the Orioles to their seventh straight win over the Red Sox with 7 IP, 1 ER and 4 K. Pushed his record to 5-2 on the season and his ERA to 3.49. Chen should really be owned by more than just the 12.1% in ESPN leagues, or at least streamed as much as possible.

Next are the guys you should be checking for availability in your leagues.

Edwin Jackson – 68.6% owned – Like Ringo he's the overshadowed and unloved member of  Washington's elite staff.  Continued on the steady path he's been on since a few rough starts at the beginning of the season, with a win over the Mets on 7 IP,  2 ER and 6 K.

Bud Norris – 61.6% owned – Norris gave up all 4 runs the Cardinals scored in the Astros 4-3 loss in his 6 IP. He did have 12 K in those 6 IP and could provide value to the 31.8% of ESPN league teams that can handle the ERA hit to benefit from his 9.05 K/9.

Wade Miley – 62.5% owned – 8 IP, 1 ER, 5 K in Arizona's 6-1 win over Colorado, continuing a nice 2012 in which he sports a 2.72 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 6-2 record. His xFIP of 4.23 says regression is coming, but he might be worth a flyer for pitching needy teams.

Adam Wainwright – If you have Wainwright you probably started him, but he has struggled this year and was coming off a 7 ER night on 6/1. If you had benched him, he showed some life on Wednesday with 5.2 IP, 3 ER and 8 K, in picking up the win.

Finally the number one types that are 100% owned and definitely should have gotten the start.

Brandon Morrow – 9 IP, 0 ER, 5 K, win for Blue Jays, 4-0 over the White Sox.

Zach Greinke – 7 IP, 0 ER, 12 K and the win in the Brewers shut-out of the Cubs.

Josh Beckett – 8 IP, 2 ER, 5 K, but out dueled by Baltimore's Chen.

Josh Johnson – 7.2 IP, 2 ER, 9 K, but out dueled by Atlanta's Delgado.

Colby Lewis – 8 IP, 2 ER, 3 K, but out dueled by Big Fat Bartolo Colon.

A few other notes. The Tigers lost again, falling 9-6 to division rival Cleveland and dropping further below .500. The curse of big contract first baseman – Fielder, Pujols, A-Gon, Teixeira – continues. The Dodgers won again, beating the Phillies 6-5 and continuing on their merry way, even without Matt Kemp. Paul Goldschmidt had a big night going 3-4 with 1 HR and 3 RBI. Adam Laroche was 2-3 with 1 HR and 4 RBI. Good job, good effort all around.
