2012 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Yankees spoil Red Sox day of celebrations

Picture

The Red Sox enshrine the greats of their past, and the Yankees thwart the celebration.

Yesterday, the Red Sox rejoiced in the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. Former players including Carlton Fisk, Pedro Martinez, Luis Tiant, and former World Series winning Manager Terry Francona were present for the festivities. Once the game actually began, the Yanks took a quick 3 – 1 lead and never looked back destroying the Red Sox gala 6 – 2.

April 20th, was a big day in sports, including three historic stadiums opening their doors for the first time, Detroit’s Tiger Stadium (1912), Boston’s Fenway Park (1912), and Chicago’s Wrigley Field then known as Weeghman Park opened in 1916. Ted Williams recorded his first hit as a professional baseball player in 1939, and almost 30 years later in 1967 Tom Seaver won his first Major League Game beating the Cubs 6 – 1. Michael Jordan helps to set two basketball records including 63 points in a playoff game in 1986, the most ever, and the Bulls complete a 72 win season 10 years later. Finally, Danica Patrick becomes the very first woman to win an Indy Car race, taking the checkered flag at the Indy Japan 300.

Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly celebrated his 51st birthday.

Speaking of the Dodgers, Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp of the Dodgers drive in the teams' three runs, bringing their season runs batted in totals to 19 and 20 respectively. This number nearly equates to two-thirds of the teams total runs to date.
Kemp blasted his 8th homer of the season to lead the league in round trippers, while Ted Lilly wins his second straight start since coming off the disabled list.

The Cincinnati Reds become the 6th team in Major League Baseball history to record 10,000 wins All-Time. They join the likes of the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Atlanta Braves. Of the six teams, they rank 3rd in losses with 9,710, behind the Braves (10,032) and the Cubs (9,790).

Alex Rodriguez officially slots himself as the 5th all-time in home runs passing former teammate Ken Griffey Jr, to help hand the Red Sox their fourth straight loss.

Lin-Sanity in basketball trickles to baseball as St. Louis embraces Lynn-Sanity. Lance Lynn wins his 3rd decision of the year, beating the Pirates giving up 4 hits over 7 innings pitched striking out 4.

Josh Willingham’s hot streak continues as he extends his streak to 14 straight games blasting a bases clearing triple in the 7th inning. His streak is only two games shy of the team record to start the season.

The National League West delivered late inning blows as the Rockies and Giants score in the top of the 9th and 10th innings respectively

The Toronto Blue Jays completed the fourth triple play in team history yesterday (3-6) when Adam Lind caught a hot liner off the bat of Eric Hosmer. Lind quickly stepped on first for the second out and tossed to second for the third out of the inning.

Six players continue to hit .400 or above including disabled list attendee Chris Young .410. David Wright leads the league with a .486 AVG.

Beachy gave up 4 hits, struck out 5 in 7 1/3 scoreless as Brian McCann’s 2 run homer and Jason Heyward extended his hit streak to 10 games.

Ubaldo Jiminez improved to 2 – 0 helping the Indians to achieve their 6th road win of the season.

Alejandro De Aza of the White Sox, and Jason Heyward of the Braves are the only two players in baseball with multiple doubles, triples, and home runs. Aza 2 doubles and 2 triples with 3 home runs, while Heyward is hitting 2 / 2 / 2.

Eric Chavez of the Yankees and Adam Dunn added to the year of the multi-HR game as they both blasted 2 homers each.
Adam Dunn of the White Sox continues his swing and a miss antics as he leads the league in strike outs with 22.

More than 20 pitchers are currently striking out at least a batter per inning, including set up me Aroldis Champan from Cincinnati and Kenley Janson of the Dodgers. Both of which have 17 Ks in 9 and 10 innings pitched respectively.
