2015 Fantasy Football: All-Value Team

eli land

Every year great players plummet in the draft. There can be a number a reasons why a player falls in the draft including age, injuries, coming off a down year or a situational change. Nonetheless, many of these players still have a ton of value. This is a team constructed of these players.

QB1 Eli Manning, New York Giants

Manning’s current ADP (average draft position) has him being drafted as the QB17. He is a surefire QB1 in my eyes. Many people don’t realize what a great year he had last season because of the Giants’ early season struggles. In a brand new offense, Manning threw the ball 610 times for 4,410 yards, 30 touchdowns and merely 14 interceptions. He should only get better this season. With a full year in the offense under his belt, this season Manning will have Odell Beckham Jr for all 16 games, Victor Cruz back and Shane Vereen to target out of the backfield. Look for him to make a similar jump to the one Ben Roethlisberger made last year.

RB1 Devonta Freeman, Atlanta Falcons

Rookie Tevin Coleman has significantly jumped Freeman this offseason in fantasy drafts and that’s a major mistake. Coleman is being drafted as the RB23 and Freeman the RB38. Not only is the age discrepancy very minimal, all reports coming out of Atlanta are that Freeman is running away with the starting job after minicamp. He will be particularly more valuable in PPR leagues. There is little doubt surrounding who the primary pass-catcher will be. Look for Freeman to make a huge leap this season and put up RB2 numbers.

RB2 Danny Woodhead, San Diego Chargers

After a broken leg last season, everybody has forgotten about little Danny Woodhead. He’s currently being drafted as the No. 63 running back off the board. He is and will be an excellent source of PPR points. In 2013, his first year with the Chargers, Woodhead caught 76 passes, totaled over 1,000 yards from scrimmage and scored eight TDs. Expect much of the same this season. The Chargers’ offense stalled last season without the presence of a high-level pass-catching back. It was the first time since Philip Rivers became the starter that a RB failed to catch at least 49 passes. Rookie Melvin Gordon’s biggest weakness is as a pass-catcher and blocker. You do the math.

WR1 Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions

Megatron isn’t falling all that far but far enough. In every mock I’ve seen or participated in, he’s fallen out of the first round. He’s currently being drafted as the WR8. I still have him ranked as the No.2 wideout. I could see how you could push him back to five, nevertheless, any further is absurd. He’s only 29 years old and despite missing three games last season and the better portion of two others, he still caught 71 passes for 1,077 yard and eight TDs. His ankle is fully healthy and he’s had a full year to adapt to Joe Lombardi’s offense as has his quarterback. Reports out of Detroit are that the coaches will unleash Matthew Stafford this season and allow him to air it out more. The only receiver I’m drafting before Johnson is Antonio Brown.

WR2 Steve Smith, Baltimore Ravens

Smith may be 36 years old but he’s as feisty and hard-nosed as they come. The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder has always played like he’s 6-foot-4, 230 his whole career. He is still by far the most dangerous option the Ravens have in the passing attack, now more than ever actually. Breshad Perriman has bust written all over him and Maxx Williams is not NFL ready. Joe Flacco will have to rely of guys like Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown. Smith has topped 70 catches and 1,000 yards three of the last four seasons, the other he dealt with injuries. Last season (his first season in Baltimore) he caught 79 passes for 1,065 yards and six TDs. There is no reason he should be drafted as the WR62 as he current ADP suggests that he is.

WR3 Allen Hurns, Jacksonville Jaguars

Allen Robinson is by far the best weapon the Jags have but Hurns may be the most dangerous. He’s much better than Marqise Lee, do not allow where they went in the draft to fool you. Hurns is currently going 93rd among receivers! That’s asinine! As an undrafted rookie he caught 51 passes for 677 yards and six TDs. This year he will move into a starting role and should develop immensely. The Jags have a talented young offense and Hurns will be a major piece of the puzzle that turns that team around. His current value is incredible.

TE1 Charles Clay, Buffalo Bills

Clay is currently being drafted as the TE25. The Bills gave him Gronk money, do people think they don’t intend on using him? He’s young, athletic, versatile and came on strong last year in the fantasy playoffs. Not only that, the offensive line is horrible and so are the quarterbacks. They will have to rely on their tight end and running backs as a security blanket. Especially if old noodle are Matt Cassel gets the starting nod as expected. This may be much ado about nothing, nevertheless, he came into the league as a fullback and the Dolphins have used him in short yardage and goal line situations in the past. Just a little something extra to think about.
