The Daily Fix: Carlos Beltran Goes Yard Thrice & Other Fantasy Baseball News

As always on a short day of games there was plenty of action.

Carlos Beltran apparently thinks he has a lot of catching up to do for all his time off with injuries. Beltran hit 3 homers last night, one each against Ubaldo Jimenez, Franklin Morales & Matt Lindstrom. I'm actually considering picking him for our FREE Fantasy Baseball Game tonight. If you haven't signed up yet, you have right up until the 7 PM EST games start.

While only lasting 3.2 innings Jimenez gave up 3 hits, 6 walks, 5 runs  and has yet to win a game. Colorado has now lost 8 of their last 10, but luckily are only one game behind the Giants.

With a win from the Rays and a loss from the Yanks, Tampa has pulled into first place in the AL east. Since starting the season 1-9, Tampa has gone 21-6 since. James Shields has certainly done his part and is now 4-1 with a sub-1 WHIP and 2.08 ERA.

Speaking of doing their part, Jaime Garcia won his 5th game and brought his already low ERA down to 1.89.

If Daniel Hudson could get a little run support from the Diamondbacks, he could easily have a 6-2 record, instead of a sad 3-5.

How often do you see 2 pitchers face off, pitch a complete game, both give up ZERO runs and receive a no-decision? NOT OFTEN! (It was a rhetorical questions dammit) Zach Britton squared off against Jason Vargas and a battle ensued. Britton gave up only 3 hits and fanned 5. He has simply been unbelievable in his rookie season and holds a 2.42 ERA. Vargas was impressive as well only giving up 7 hits and a walk. The Orioles won in the 12th off a JJ Hardy single.

Eric Hosmer (Listen to our podcast if you're curious how to pronounce his last name) hit his 2nd homer in 2 nights. Congrats to those who picked him up… so far, so good!

Jason Heyward's MRI showed no significant damage, but he does have slight inflammation in his rotator cuff. Nothing a little cortisone shot wont fix…

Johan Santana threw off the mound for the first time since his shoulder surgery.

Chipper “Old Man” Jones continues to defy age hitting his 4th homer of the season, but even better his 26th RBI, good for 5th in the NL. Alan, I salute you for having faith in the AARP member and drafting him in our league. Although I still say that he will break his hip before the season is over.
