Welcome to the fifth entry of The Fix’s Fantasy Football Injury Report.  Each week I (@Rich_Migs) will cover several key fantasy football related injuries.  The idea is not to cover every football injury, but instead cover the notable ones that have direct fantasy implications.  As the season continues, the report will address the most recent injuries and their fantasy football related consequences.

I will try to avoid repeating names too often from week to week unless there is news to report.  If you would like to see the injury list for Week Three, please click here.   You can see all my injury reports (and my other work) by following my archive here.

We had at least one major injury in Week 4, a couple of double knockouts, including one that isn’t all that surprising.

Week Five:

Player

Injury

Status/Update

Stock Risers/Fallers

Jake Locker (QB)

Hip

Out for Week 5:

Locker is expected to miss at least four to six weeks, but it could be more than that depending on how his rehab process goes.  He was playing well this season.  Hopefully this doesn’t set back his development.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB).  Titans Receivers (WR/TE).  Chris Johnson (RB).  Fitzy (as I like to call him) can be used in two QB leagues, but temper expectations.  Every so often gave us a big game, but there we shouldn’t forget his disasters.  The Titan receivers get knocked down a peg.  Chris Johnson hasn’t done much in his first four games and I can’t imagine this will help him any.  But for now I view him as neutral.

Darren Mcfadden (RB)/Marcel Reece (RB)

Hamstring/Knee

Doubtful for Week 5:

The Raiders lost both of their top running options this past week and both are likely to miss Week 5 and possibly more.  Hopefully DMC gets healthy quickly, but owners really should expect him to miss multiple weeks.  As for Reece, he would have been a nice option (handcuff material), but he will likely be week to week.

Rashad Jennings (RB).  If you need a RB this week, pick up Jennings.  He will be handling most of the work now that DMC and Reece are out.  He isn’t special, but usage is usage and that adds up to enough points to be worth at least a Flex spot.  If you don’t need a RB this week, I would still say to pick up Jennings.  If there is such a thing as a slow healer, DMC is it, and Reece’s status is pretty unknown.

Santonio Holmes (WR)/Stephen Hill (WR)

Hamstring/Concussion

Doubtful for Week 5:

It was a tough day for the Jets on Sunday, but at least Holmes didn’t re-injure his foot.  He couldn’t finish the game Sunday and it is now being reported he may miss multiple weeks.  Hill is likely to be out, as missing the next game seems to often be the case with concussions.

Jeremy Kerley (WR).  Kellen Winslow Jr. (TE).  Bilal Powell (RB).  Geno Smith (QB). Someone has to get the ball in this offense, and I expect Kerley to take the Julian Edelman role and receive double digit targets.  Winslow will get an opportunity to see more snaps, but really isn’t on the radar except for deep leagues.  I believe Powell will get a lot of check downs in the passing game.  Geno Smith, poor Geno Smith.  It may only get worse before it gets better, but hopefully it does in fact get better.

Other Injury Related News:

  • C.J. Spiller (RB) is banged up along with Fred Jackson (RB), but both are expected to play this week.  If both are surprise outs, Tashard Choice is your choice man.
  • Alfred Morris (RB) sustained an injury to his ribs, but he has the bye week to rest up.
  • LeSean McCoy (RB) gave his owners a scare, but it looks like he should be fully ready to face the Giants’ defense this week.
  • Miles Austin (WR) is still dealing with his hamstring, but may have a chance to play.  If not, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten will see some extra targets.
  • Rob Gronkowski (TE) should finally be back with the Patriots this week, but then again, we just don’t know the full extent of the situation.
  • Danny Amendola (WR) may play this week, but that was said last week too.  I wouldn’t be counting on him.
  • Terrelle Pryor (QB) is expected to play this week.  If he is available in two quarterback leagues, scoop him up.
  • Eddy Lacy (RB) should be back this week.  He may have to share the load with Jonathan Franklin, however.
  • Jermichael Finley (TE) still has concussion symptons.  Owners should expect him to be out.
  • Steven Jackson (RB) is still expected to be out through week 6.
  • Roddy White (WR) played on almost every snap and could be a nice buy-low target as he finally seems healthy.
