Welcome to the fifth entry of The Fix’s Fantasy Football Injury Report.  Each week I (@Rich_Migs) will cover several key fantasy football related injuries.  The idea is not to cover every football injury, but instead cover the notable ones that have direct fantasy implications.  As the season continues, the report will address the most recent injuries and their fantasy football related consequences.

I will try to avoid repeating names too often from week to week unless there is news to report.  If you would like to see the injury list for Week 5, please click here.   You can see all my injury reports (and my other work) by following my archive here.

We’ve had some notable injuries this past week, so let’s get to it.

Week Six:

Player

Injury

Status/Update

Stock Risers/Fallers

Julio Jones (WR)

Foot

Doubtful for Week 7 (Flacons have a week 6 bye):

This is worse than just doubtful.  The Falcons now fear that Jones could be lost for the season.  Safe to say, this is a crushing loss for fantasy owners everywhere.

Matt Ryan (QB). Hugh Douglas (WR).  Roddy White (WR).  Tony Gonzalez (TE). Matt Ryan is already playing behind an iffy O-line and losing his best weapon is going to make this extremely difficult on him.  Roddy White has lost a step and is fighting injuries, but has the bye week to recover.  Hugh Douglas will see an increase in targets and everyone on the Falcons should be thankful that Tony G. decided not to retire.  A lot depends on the health of production of Roddy White to see if Gonzalez can take advantage of the extra targets.  He could be doubled to no end.

Michael Vick (QB)

Hamstring

Doubtful for Week 6:

Vick participated in some drills on Tuesday, but he is still expected to miss week six.  This was first thought of as a multi-week injury, so him participating in drills already is an encouraging sign.

Nick Foles (QB).  Desean Jackson (WR).  Lesean McCoy (RB)Perhaps downgrading Jackson here is a bit harsh, but he’s been playing so well with Vick, you have to be concerned about the Eagles changing it up to suit Foles’s strengths.  In the end, it may hurt Jackson.

Darren Mcfadden (RB)/Rashad Jennings (RB)

Hamstring/Hamstring

Questionable for Week 6:

Jennings hurt his hamstring during this week’s game and could not return.  Details are scarce, but not re-entering the game doesn’t look good.

Marcel Reece (RB).  If both Jennings and DMC are out, expect Reece to carry the load.  He also has the ability to catch some passes out of the backfield, but he has a tough matchup at Kansas City.

Ahmad Bradshaw (RB)

Neck Surgery

Out for Week 6:

Bradshaw will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing neck surgery.

Trent Richardson (RB). Donald Brown (RB).  Richardson receives a boost and the Colts will now have to ride out their new RB.  Brown will receive some carries, but is only worth a handcuff in very deep leagues.

Blaine Gabbert (QB)

Hamstring

Out for Week 6:

I’m not sure why Gabbert is allowed to be a starter in this league, but perhaps it is because the Jaguars are trying their best to completely tank.  Gabbert is considered week to week.

Chad Henne (QB). EVERYONE.  Chad Henne is nothing special, but he is way better than Gabbert and that is only good news for guys like Cecil Shorts, Justin Blockman, and Maurice-Jones Drew.

Calvin Johnson (WR)

Knee

Questionable for Week 6:

Megatron was a very surprising out this Sunday and now owners have to prepare for the worst.

NO ONE. The Lions offense has to be better with extended playing time and better preparation for life without Johnson, but we saw the results.  If Johnson misses week sixth, no one should be trending upwards.

Ryan Mathews (RB)

Concussion

Questionable for Week 6:

This is not what Mathews needed as he continues to lose snaps to Danny Woodhead.

Danny Woodhed (RB).  This is a big time opportunity for Woodhead and he could deliver nice numbers vs. the Colts this week.

Owen Daniels (TE)

Fibula

Out for Week 6:

After getting injured late vs. the 49ers, Daniels will not only miss this week, but he could miss up to six weeks.

Garrett Graham (TE). DeAndre Hopkins (WR).    Andre Johnson (WR).  Graham is the next tight end in line and faces a pretty weak Rams defense in week six.  He has pass catching ability and should be picked up in deep leagues and TE needy owners.  Hopkins should also see an increase in targets now with Daniels out.  Johnson didn’t need to be on this list, but he should see even more passes his way.

David Wilson (RB)

Neck

Out for Week 6:

Wilson reportedly felt tingling in his neck and did not practice Monday.  The extent of the injury is still unknown, but he went for a second opinion, so it doesn’t sound very good.

Brandon Jacobs (RB). Da’Rel Scott (RB).  I wouldn’t expect much from Jacobs or Scott.  Out of the two, deep leaguers and desperate owners should give Scott a try.

Richard Migliorisi (Writer)

Flu-like Symptoms

Probable for Week 6:

We won’t go into details, but completing this report was not easy.  A lot of deep breaths and a lot of time to collect oneself.  Apologies if the report lacks fulfillment.

Fantasy Teams. Suicide Pool.  It was a tough Monday as Migliorisi lost in his suicide pool and lost by less than three points in fantasy football with the deciding game being Monday night.  The J-E-T-Swon however, and that makes this writer feel a bit better.

Other Injury Related News:

  • Miles Austin (WR) is still dealing with his hamstring, but may have a chance to play.
  • Rob Gronkowski (TE) should finally be back with the Patriots this week, but then again, I said that last week.  I expect he will be back.
