Thoughts and Musings:

The Vancouver Canucks host the Edmonton Oilers tonight after these two teams played the night before and were victorious. Two-way center Ryan Kesler will be all over Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tonight, as that line has been red hot. Taylor Hall – Jordan Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins combined for two goals and six total points on the night, but only one one goal for the line came 5-on-5. The Canucks have an elite penalty-kill so I’m avoiding all three of these Oilers tonight. Kesler should be able to capitalize on the defensive shortcomings of this Edmonton line, as will Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen (his line-mates).

The Boston Bruins visit the New York Islanders, and the Bruins are likely rolling out Chad Johnson tonight. The Islanders top line is as close to a no-brainer as it gets. Also, Andrew MacDonald and Calvin De Haan are sneaky plays. The Boston top line is also a good choice tonight, as are Brad Marchand and Reilly SmithAvoid both goalies.

The Columbus Blue Jackets visit the Carolina Hurricanes, and I expect the Blue Jackets to come out furious after losing to the Sabres 5-2 at home to end their winning streak. The Hurricanes are coming off a 6-3 drubbing of the Ottawa Senators and will likely be very complacent. I love the Jackets tonight, but specifically i think the Jackets third line of Boone Jenner, Artem Anisimov and Nathan Horton is a shrewd play. Also, Derek MacKenzie and Mark Letestu are likely to produce a goal. The Blue Jackets are good GPP candidates.

The Pittsburgh Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres, and while the Sabres are bad, they did beat the Blue Jackets 5-2. The Penguins are coming off a terrible performance against the Dallas Stars. This game could go either way, believe it or not. The Penguins are typically a team that plays down to their opponent, while Buffalo plays up to their opponents (under Ted Nolan). I am using Evgeni Malkin and James Neal tonight with line-mate Jussi Jokinen as well. I have more confidence in other teams tonight than the Penguins, but we all know they can score in bunches. They are a good GPP candidate.

The San Jose Sharks host the scuffling Los Angeles Kings. The Kings can’t score right now, and their fall from grace has been impressively bad. Alex Stalock is a “Sta-LOCK” to have a great performance tonight. He’s my #1 goaltender. Also, Joe Pavelski, Justin Braun, Patrick Marleauand Jason Demers are in some of my lineups tonight.
