2014 Fantasy Hockey Daily Fix, October 30th 2014

Welcome to yet another big day of action across the National Hockey League. There are ten games today, including a handful of games that should feature lots of scoring.

Let’s run down the news of the day first:

Vincent Lecavalier will miss tonight’s game for the Flyers. It will be Philadelphia’s only trip to Tampa, Vinny’s old stomping grounds. If you own him in season long, get him out of your lineups.

Evander Kane is expected to rejoin the lineup for the Winnipeg Jets tonight in their battle with the New Jersey Devils. Kane has only had three shifts this season, as he was injured in the first game of the season. He took line rushes with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler

T.J. Oshie and David Backes have both been diagnosed with concussions and will be OUT tonight in their home game against the Anaheim Ducks. Both of these players play crucial roles for the Blues defensively — despite being forwards — so expect the worst, Blues fans.

Bargain Bin Values:

Steven Stamkos | Tampa Bay | Center | $7,400: I promise I’m not trolling the title of this segment — let’s just all understand that he’s cheaper than he’s ever going to be. Combine that with the fact that Ray Emery is starting in net for the Flyers, and you have yourself a excellent value play for 7400.

*INSERT DAILY Damon Severson (defense) RECOMMENDATION HERE* — oh by the way, he’s only $3400 tonight. He needs to be in every single lineup.

Anton Stralman | Tampa Bay | Defense | $3,600: Stralman is a guy that I’ve gotten some feedback on as not being very safe despite being on the top power-play unit, and this is true. Stralman is normally a defense-first guy, so that needs to be understood. He’s a guy that can’t be plugged into all your lineups — but he’ll always be a solid play at this price point against bad teams.

Lubomir Visnovsky | New York Islanders | Defense | $3,400: — One of those players that will continue to be in my article every single night until their prices are raised.

Reilly Smith | Boston Bruins | Winger | $3,600: Short answer = they are playing Buffalo. More detailed answer = They are playing the Buffalo Sabres and they are bad.

Blake Comeau | Pittsburgh Penguins | Winger | $3,200: I don’t have as much confidence in Comeau as I did in his previous outing — in which he scored a goal — but if you need multiple value wingers and are in a salary pinch take him.  I will always endorse a guy playing with Evgeni Malkin.

Ryan Clowe | New Jersey Devils | Winger | $3,200: I like him less than Comeau, but if you want to diversify your exposure a bit, Clowe is a nice pivot. He’s on the second line with Patrik Elias and Damien Brunner, as well as the second power-play unit — with that same duo.

Seth Griffith | Boston Bruins | Center | $3,600: Griffith is coming off a huge three point performance against a very good Minnesota team and now he faces Buffalo. I’m usually not a fan of chasing big games, but this one feels very appropriate.

Mark Scheifele | Winnipeg Jets | Center | $3,800: Oh boy, here it comes again. I was obsessed with the Jets last year for fantasy, in particular the Kane – Scheifele – Wheeler line. They are reunited tonight against a Devils team that has been porous defensively.

Niklas Svedberg | Boston Bruins | Goalie | $7,100: He’s a value and a must have. Svedberg posted his first career shutout against these same terrible Sabres in his first start of the year.

Worth The Price:

Dougie Hamilton | Boston Bruins | Defense | $4,900: Don’t be fooled by his childish name, this 21-year-old blue-liner plays like a full grown man. With top power-play minutes and number one D-pairing minutes, he’s a fantasy gold mine today against the worst team in the NHL.

Patrice Bergeron ($5,500), David Krejci ($6,200) | Boston Bruins | Center: Get exposure to both. I always get burned playing Bruins roulette, so I’m done picking one line to go off.

Blake Wheeler | Winnipeg Jets | Winger | $5,600

Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry | Anaheim Ducks | Combined cost: $15,400
