DAILY FANTASY HOCKEY: DRAFTKINGS VALUE PICKS, DECEMBER 18th

Christopher Morais

The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s DraftKings contests.

If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually

Connor Hellebuyck—Winnipeg Jets–$6500

When building a fantasy team, goaltending is important, so you want to make sure you snag the right goalie. Connor Hellebuyck is just that, and is a great value play for tonight. The kid has been solid since being called up to the NHL, and has a decent matchup against a struggling New York Rangers team. The Rangers can score goals, but to say they’re a good team is a bit of a reach. They’ve been hanging on since the start of the season thanks to goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who’s been their best player since game one. New York is a terrible puck possession team, and if Winnipeg can find a way to score some goals, Hellebuyck should pick up the win. Chasing wins in DFS isn’t ideal, but sometimes it pays off.

Dainius Zubrus—San Jose Sharks–$2700

The fact that Dainius Zubrus is still playing hockey in the NHL is astounding. The 37-year-old has gone from not having a team at the start of the season, to playing on the top line with Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton. Zubrus is now getting his opportunity to show management that he isn’t done just yet. The Sharks take on the Sens tonight—the team that’s allowing the most shots against per game—so Zubrus will have opportunities to pick up some point tonight. At $2700, the risk is minimal, so if you need a bargain bin play that could hit value, Zubrus is your guy.

Conor Sheary—Pittsburgh Penguins–$2500

Who? Most people (including myself) had no idea who Sheary was before he played his first NHL game Wednesday against the Bruins. He’s being given the opportunity to play on a line with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz in tonight’s matchup. The 23-year-old isn’t going to take the league by storm, but he’s minimum price on DraftKings and is getting the opportunity to play with the (former) best player in the NHL. Crosby makes everyone around him better (just ask Kunitz), so it’s quite possible that Sheary picks up his first NHL point tonight. The Bruins are an excellent team, but they give up their fair share of goals every now and then. If you need a low risk/high reward player in your lineup, Sheary is the player to roster.
