Daily Fantasy Hockey Strategy: February 16, 2016

It’s an eight-game slate Tuesday night with two ideal matchups and several favorable angles for DFS players to think about while choosing their lineups. Let’s get right to the action with our game of the evening: Anaheim at Edmonton.

All shot attempt numbers discussed are at even strength and score-adjusted unless otherwise noted.

And as always, make sure to check Twitter for any injury news, and check LeftWingLock for starting goalies and line combos.

TEAMS TO TARGET

Anaheim Ducks at Edmonton

The Ducks are surging right now. They’ve won nine of 11 and have earned points in four of five on their current seven-game road trip. Edmonton plays much better at home, but on paper they still do not stack up to Anaheim who remain the third-best possession team in the league with the best penalty kill and an improving power play that notched three in a win last night over Calgary.

Ryan Getzlaf has 11 points and is a plus-9 in his last seven games. He has picked up his game since the arrival of linemate David Perron, who with Mike Santorella make for a smart stack option that may not even be the most heavily owned in this game with the attention McDavid and Co. have been getting lately. Getzlaf is the only player from that line who gets significant power play time, so he would carry more value if you’re only choosing one.

Rickard Rackell has almost as much value as Corey Perry in the stack department if you’re taking the power play into consideration. Also, Sami Vatanen and Cam Fowler should be worth their price-tags on the backend.

Boston Bruins at Columbus

Columbus is doing a lot of really good things right now. They are 4-0-1 since February 4 and have won six of eight behind rookie goaltender Joonas Korpisalo who is 8-1-2 with a 1.94 goals-against average while starting 11 of the team’s last 13 games. Korpisalo’s last loss? You guessed it, Boston.

The Bruins have scored 15 goals in their last three games. Their power play has cooled off a bit, 0 for its last 11, but Brad Marchand is the hottest player in the league and should be heavily owned tonight. Marchand has a goal in 12 of the last 13 games he’s played and seven straight. Boston is 18-6-3 on the road this season and have won four straight in Columbus.

As noted, I like Marchand to stay hot tonight, and his line makes for an affordable stack option tonight. Ryan Spooner plays with Marchand and see time on the top power play, he would definitely carry the most value from that group.

Notes:

The Buffalo Sabres are not a very good team, but if value is what you need, look no further than the Sabres power play in their matchup against Ottawa. If the Sabres have a redeeming quality about them, it would have to be their tenth ranked power play. They should get their share of opportunities against an Ottawa penalty kill that is the worst in the league. The top unit of O’Reilly, Eichel, Reinhart, McGinn and Ristolainen could make for good pickups if there is a hole in your lineup and the price is right.

It’s a similar case as above with the Devils-Flyers. New Jersey has the sixth-best power play in the league, and the Flyers have committed the sixth-most penalties so far this season, so the chances should be there against the sixth-worst PK group in the league (the Devils and the number six naturally go together).

Washington owns the best record in the league at home while Los Angeles is the best possession team on the road. Despite both teams heading in different directions of late — Caps are 7-2-1 in their last ten while the Kings are 4-6 — there are better matchups to choose from Tuesday night, so I will be fading.
