Daily Fantasy Hockey Strategy: February 23, 2016

It’s a loaded nine-game slate for Tuesday. The schedule includes a few favorable matchups, as well as a team playing against Toronto –you honestly have no choice but to really like any team that is playing Toronto right now.

Let’s get to it with the best matchup on the board: Dallas Stars at Winnipeg.

All shot attempt numbers discussed are at even strength and score-adjusted unless otherwise noted.

And as always, make sure to check Twitter for any injury news, and check LeftWingLock for starting goalies and line combos.

TEAMS TO TARGET

Dallas Stars at Winnipeg

Both of these teams have lost three straight, however one of these things is not like the other. The Stars have a chance to retake the top spot in the West and have beaten the Jets their last three meetings by a combined score of 13-7. The Jets are enduring a 2-8 stretch in their last ten at home and have allowed a combined 16 goals in their last three losses, so the stage is set for Dallas to break out offensively tonight.

For Dallas, my money is on the top line to do the damage this evening. Bryan Little appears to be a game-time decision, and even if he plays, he won’t be 100%. That means Been-Seguin-Spezza will either be matching against a Jets top-line that has been struggling to do anything recently, or against the depth of the Jets that isn’t 100% and wasn’t very good to begin with. Seguin had two goals in their last meeting three weeks ago and is definitely worth paying up for tonight.

Nashville Predators at Toronto

This one is too easy. We aren’t sure how the Maple Leafs are going to continue to roster a full lineup, but from a DFS perspective, it’s going to be fun to watch.

The Preds are 6-0-2 in their previous seven road games, and for a very bizarre stat, they are 10-1-3 against Canadian teams this season.

Mike Ribeiro has eight points in his last seven games on the second line with Filip Forsberg and Craig Smith. They will likely draw most of their matchups against the lower lines of the Leafs, making them the line with the most value from Nashville. The other solid stack option would be James Neal and Ryan Johansen from the Preds top power play along with Roman Josi and/or Shea Weber.

Los Angles Kings at home against the Calgary Flames

The Kings are the best possession team in the league and haven’t lost four straight at home in over two years. They get a Flames team that  struggles nightly possessing the puck and has lost four of five while giving up a combined 27 goals in its past six. The only other matchup between these two teams this season, the Kings took it 4-1, and there is plenty of reason to believe they will duplicate the outcome Tuesday night.

The Kings should be able to get their top line out against the Flames bottom-six a fair amount, and not to mention the inexplicably awful Kris Russell. Lucic, Carter and Toffoli hold the most value and will also see the most time on the power play against a Flames PK that is the worst in the league. Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin have big bumps in value from the Kings back end tonight as well.

Notes:

Detroit Red Wings at home against Columbus

Don’t fall into this trap tonight. Detroit has lost four straight and are on an 0-for-11 run on the man-advantage. Columbus has been playing better lately and has won eight of the last 10 meetings with the Wings, including the past two. Joonas Korpisalo should be in net for the Jackets. He has posted a .929 save percentage over a 5-1-2 span. Fade City for this one.

Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators

When two terrible teams with terrible goaltenders get together, always bet the over. The Oilers took the last meeting 7-2 in Ottawa, so there you go. The Oilers have surprisingly been a not-quite-as-bad team at home this season, so give the edge to them despite Ottawa’s Craig Anderson posting a .951 save percentage last week. Pouliot-McDavid-Eberle makes for a strong play tonight.
