Daily Fantasy Hockey Strategy: Value Picks, February 11th

The Fix always has a full breakdown of significant NHL slates for our Front Office subscribers, but now we’re also going to be highlighting a few value plays for everyone on most days with big NHL slates. Below you’ll find three or four players who are cheap and undervalued in today’s main DraftKings contests as well as some FanDuel contests from 7:00 pm on.

If you’d like to read our full breakdown of tonight’s slate, complete with player rankings, you can become a Front Office member or purchase today’s breakdown individually here.

DRAFTKINGS

Mattias Janmark — Dallas Stars–$3300 ($4100 on FanDuel)

This is the old wait-and-see where Janmark plays first, but one may want to play him anyway. He has four points in his last nine games as Dallas is starting to string together some goals over a span of games finally. It is a sign that playing 14-15 minutes a night has helped the young forward in the maturation process. Keep an eye on his power play time as well.

Cal Clutterbuck — New York Islanders –$2700 ($3200 on FanDuel)

If there is anyone who can hit and play as hard as the Los Angeles Kings, it may just be Clutterbuck. That fourth line of the Islanders could be somewhat of a high risk value play. The Kings are not going to be an easy opponent but they are on a nasty East Coast trip. It is ultra rare to go with this kind of bottom six play, but this may be a risk worth taking.

Simon Despres — Anaheim Ducks — $2900 ($3200 on FanDuel)

The only problem with Despres really is that he does not shoot the puck enough (7 SOG in his last 10 games). That being said, he can block quite a few shots and as his role slowly increases, he will gain value. His low price and ability to be on the positive side of the +/- cannot hurt. It may just be worth it to play him and see what happens. At the worst, he provides excellent salary relief.

Cam Talbot — Edmonton Oilers — $7000 ($7200 on FanDuel)

We did consider others but Talbot did give up only two goals to a Devils team that fired 26 shots on Tuesday. Most expected a higher output against Edmonton but still it was a respectable night considering Talbot gave up nine goals on his last 44 shots. Toronto has the ability to put up shots on net and the Oilers are at home after a brutal road trip. Yes, playing the first game of a home-stand like this can be risky but hey, risks have to be taken.

FANDUEL

Curtis Lazar — Ottawa Senators –$3400

I know we are going down the rabbit hole, but Lazar does seem to hit above value in just about every start lately. With a favorable match-up against Colorado, this may be time to try and take the plunge. It will be tempting to look elsewhere but hey, let’s cast the line out to see what may happen.

Nino Niederreiter — Minnesota Wild–$3900 — This could have potential as at some point the well has to break for Minnesota and for Niederreiter who has 40-50 point seasonal upside. He has four plus shots on goal in three of his last four outings. A home contest against Washington may bring the best out of the Wild player.

Connor Hellebuyck — Winnipeg Jets — $6600

This is a scary proposition going up against a Boston team with a heady road record, but Hellebuyck had been so good for the first three months that he at least warrants a high risk GPP play. Just keep him in mind when making multiple lineups especially.
