2014 Fantasy Baseball: The Daily Double Switch for June 26th

Good morning everyone! You know what they say, another day, another dollar, or hopefully, a two or more dollars. I’d like to point out that whatever type of muffin I’m eating for breakfast at the moment, it’s the bomb-diggity, so most likely, these recommendations will all be A++.

Weather

Yeah, so, you don’t have to worry about weather today. Yipee!

Positional Breakdown

Starting Pitchers

We probably shouldn’t try to think to hard about this. It’s a ten game slate (20 pitchers) and one is named Adam Wainwright, another, Cole Hamels. If you’re into three’s company, then you’ll also be looking at a guy like Doug Fister. Anyway, Wainwright is unfair, he goes out every single time and essentially dominates and his statistics, peripherals, and nose hairs will help to corroborate that story. He’s facing a pretty solid Dodgers team today, but in the game of baseball, good pitching normally wins out. I don’t see him getting hit around too hard, and I think he easily falls into the top pitcher discussion today.

Cole is a little more fun to talk about today as he’ll square off against a common foe, the Miami Marlins. The Marlins have some bats that hit left-handers well, namely, Giancarlo Stanton, but I think Hamels wins out here. He’s been pretty dominant since returning from the disabled list to start the year, and the strikeouts are definitely there. We usually are fretting about the Marlins when they’re at home, so I guess give another thumbs up to Cole as this one will be played at Citizen’s Bank Park.

If you like doing things that will keep you off my friends list, then you’ll play Doug Fister tonight. Fister has also been excellent since his return from the disabled list and faces a hapless Cubs team that hardly ever puts it together top to bottom. If Fister can get the guys ahead of Rizzo and Castro out, he should have no problem maneuvering his way through this game fairly easily.

Catcher

Dare me to say Devin Mesoraco? Too bad. I only give in to double-dog dares. I’m going to go with another N.L. Central catcher in Jon Lucroy. It’s annoying because I’m a Cubs fan, but Lucroy is good. I’ll keep all the nasty things I want to say about him aside and tell you that he hits left-handed pitching really well, and in general has just been mashing the ball this year. He’s got a +.400 OBP and has more extra-base hits against left-handers than singles. I don’t want to talk about him anymore, just take him.

First Baseman

Double-dog dare me to say Jose Abreu? Ok. Jose Abreu. Abreu is a monster. A big, scary, right-handed, Cuban imported, monster. He hits homeruns a lot and gets to play at the Rogers Centre tonight, and better yet, he faces J.A. Happ. Remember when he wanted to be called “J. Happ?” Get over yourself dude, you’re not any good.

Second Basemen

Who is 65 inches tall and really good at baseball? “The whole Japanese Little League World Series team!”  Erggggggggghhhh, Jose Altuve. Yes, if you break that down into feet and inches, it’s only five feet and five inches, I was trying to make him seem taller. What Altuve lacks in height, he makes up for in just plain awesomeness. Altuve is hitting .332 on the season and has swiped 28 bags to go along with his 23 doubles. Hey, maybe I should also mention, he’s hitting .409 against left-handed pitchers and faces a lefty, Mike Minor, tonight.

Shortstop

“Jose, can you see?” Do they even sing America’s national anthem when they play in Toronto? Surely that doesn’t matter for DFS purposes, but with a special day for America approaching, and the World Cup Action later today, maybe they should if they don’t. Regardless, Jose Reyes is my boy. I bought a six dollar Reyes shirt at T.J. Maxx a few years ago and a few teams ago and still proudly wear it. He homered last night, he faces Scott Carroll, the Blue Jays are going to score runs, and he faces Scott Carroll. Don’t be weird guys, just roster him.

Third Baseman

You’re probably mad that I haven’t mentioned Anthony Rendon yet. Now I am, because well, even though Rendon plays the Cubs tonight, he’s going to be seeing a southpaw. Let us not forget that Rendon loves left-handed pitching and that Travis Wood falls prey to his middling mediocrity every three starts or so. Ant, I can call him Ant, hits lefties at a .343 clip and holds a .239 ISO against them. He’s dramatically cooled down from his two week rampage to begin the season, but he’s still very serviceable and is very much in play against left-handed guys.

Outfield

Hey guys, Jacoby was actually good last night, so I can recommend him in the future! Hooray! Cue groans from all of you wonderful readers. I won’t talk about Jacoby tonight, but only because the Yankees don’t play. Instead, I’ll focus on some other guy, a boy named Sue. Not really, that was stupid. I’m going to talk to you about Colby Rasmus and why I think he should be in your lineup today. 1) He’s facing Scott Carroll. 2) His price is just right. 3) Rasmus possess a .254 ISO against right-handed pitchers. 4) Rasmus is facing Scott Carroll.

He’s not a flashy name, and you might see him most often on Baseball Tonight thanks to his “Web Gems,” but Rasmus is a guy that we can’t forget about, especially today. The ISO is sneaky good and Scott Carroll is terribly bad. No need to be too cute, Rasmus allows you a lot of roster flexibility and salary cap space.
