2014 Fantasy Baseball: The Daily Double Switch for September 9th

Today is an exciting day, especially for you “baseballers” out there. Football has taken a strangle hold on the Daily Fantasy Sports industry and a lot of people were rewarded with large sums of money this weekend; money they are quickly looking to try and make more money with. Expect there to be some fishy action in MLB tonight, so take advantage of it!

If you’d like to beat up on some new players, sign up at DraftKings!

Weather

Some late thunderstorms might break into Chicago and play with the A’s and White Sox game, but I wouldn’t be too worried. Monitor the situation as game time approaches.

Positional Breakdown

Starting Pitchers

Today is one of those oddball days where there are a lot more, “PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH” pitchers, than guys I feel comfortable recommending. If you’re looking to mop up some cash game action tonight, I think you have to use Jon Lester. The A’s have fallen hard and fast and lost last night’s game thanks to Tyler Flowers. Flowers will be back in there tonight, but Lester should have no problem maneuvering around him and the rest of the lineup. Outside of Jose Abreu, there isn’t a player in the Sox lineup that frightens me at all. You’ll have to pay up to grab him, but he’s the top option on the night. Max Scherzer also fits as a nice cash game play, but again, you’ll have to pay top dollar.

If you’re looking for a GPP play, why not try Roenis Elias? Elias has produced solid K numbers and has amassed double digit wins in his rookie season with the Seattle Mariners. He’ll face divisional foe, the Houston Astros tonight at home in Safeco, a heavy pitcher’s park. He won’t break the bank, but provides you with plenty of upside with the strikeout potential in his left arm. Reminder: The Astros still strike out, a lot!

Catcher

When there is a premium catching play on a given day, it’s usually blatantly obvious. That’s the case today as Buster Posey squares off versus lefty, Wade Miley. Posey is an elite hitter, and perhaps the best offensive catcher in the game, but he becomes one of the best hitters in the game against southpaws. He owns a career .417 wOBA and .247 ISO against left-handers, use him tonight.

First Baseman

My favorite first base options tonight play for the same team. Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez are both available at 1B on DraftKings and are both excellent options against left-hander Jason Vargas. I shouldn’t have to say much about either one of these guys, but my favorite “justification statistic” is the fact that V-Mart has a .487 wOBA from the right side against left-handers this year. Yipee!

Second Baseman

If you’re not using Elias as a GPP option and instead would like to pick on him, use Jose Altuve. I talk about Altuve all the time, he’s so small, but yet so good. Altuve is hitting .417 against southpaws. Yes, .417! Do I even need to tell you that he steals a lot of bases, hits a lot of doubles and scores a lot of runs? Play the little guy!

Third Baseman

I realize Colin McHugh has been pretty solid in his last few starts, but I’m not backing of Kyle Seager, despite playing this game in a pitcher’s park. Seager has been a pleasant surprise and has been a big reason why the Mariners are looking to make a playoff run. He gets to hit behind Robinson Cano, and lots of times that means batting with a man or two on base. He’ll square away with McHugh tonight and take his .237 ISO against right-handers to the plate.

Shortstop

This is one of those homer, GPP plays, but one I feel like has a solid justification. Javier Baez has monster power, you’re all well aware of that. Javier Baez strikes out, a lot, in fact, that might be an understatement. Tonight, Javy gets to square away with Mark Buehrle, a soft tossing lefty, who doesn’t rack up the strikeouts. Baez will be hitting in a great hitter’s environment, and shouldn’t have any trouble putting the ball in play tonight. If he happens to barrel one up, you’ll be thankful.

Outfield

Trevor May hasn’t been good and won’t be good tonight, that’s why you should use Michael Brantley tonight. Brantley has had a career year and hopefully won’t let it slide into despair at the end. Tonight is a night that he’s capable of blowing up for a DFS team and leading you into the promise land. His price has never reached too high for his floor as he averages 9.1 DK points per game. He’s put together a .399 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season, and should look to increase that tonight.
