A special goodbye to Manny Ramirez, I know a lot of people liked your antics, but I say so long and not so good luck to ya. You were a great hitter, though, we'll never know how much of that was attributed to hard work and talent vs. having a guy jam a needle in your butt.  But you were lazy, you cheated and, ultimately you quit on your team. Enjoy your time sitting at the mall signing autographs with Pete Rose, Barry Bonds, er…actually, Bonds will be in jail.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, on this day in the year 2000 Ken Griffey, Jr. became the youngest player to hit 400 home runs. After watching Griffey breakdown, you do gain an understanding for why players decide to seek pharmaceutical help.

Good news for Brewers fans, Zack Greinke threw in a bullpen session. Bad news, he classifies his arm as "pretty good," which is exactly what you want to hear when you are a small market team that went all-in for the year and put a lot of faith in a guy that has a history of mental anxiety issues. 

A sigh of relief for Hanley Ramirez owners, after a gruesome collision, he'll be out for the weekend, but x-rays were negative and it does not look like he will miss a lot of time.

It pains me to again, give a thumbs up to the Giants, but class recognize class, and they just voted a full world series share to gravely ill clubhouse manager attendant David Lowenstein. To  most ballplayers and owners, $300k is nothing, but to a guy suffering from crohn's disease and diabetes, that is the world. They seem to be a team and organization that understands – they just play a game and can make a difference in the lives of their fans and employees.

The rubber match of the Braves vs. Phillies series also features a the best pitching match-up with sinker-ball specialist Derek Lowe facing Cole Hamels. These two teams should fight it out all summer long for the NL East title.
