2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Jacoby Ellsbury Climbing the Ladder & Other News

Jacoby Ellsbury increased his hitting streak to 17 games on Sunday with three more knocks. He has eight multi-hit games during the stretch, and has lifted his BA from .186 to .297. Over that same time period, teammate Dustin Pedroia has nosedived from .333 to .236.

After throwing a complete game one-hitter just 16 days ago, Anibal Sanchez flirted with another no-no against Washington. Laynce Nix's single to lead off the seventh frame ended his bid for a second career no-hitter. His final line: seven innings, two hits and a career-high 11 K's. He didn’t require much offensive support, but he got it anyway from Gaby Sanchez and Greg Dobbs. The corner infield duo combined to go 7/7, on base 9/9, drive in five runs and cross the plate three times.

Facing Dave Bush + Ballpark in Arlington = foolproof slump killer. Derek Jeter went 4/6 in the series finale against the Rangers, leaving the park twice (his first two dingers of 2011) and driving in three runs. The Yankees lit up Bush and a shorthanded bullpen for a 12 spot.

Austin Jackson is showing signs of busting out of his month long nightmare. The Tigers CF went 3/5 with a HR and two RBI on Sunday, recording his second consecutive three-hit game. Miraculously, he didn't strikeout in either affair.

Making his inaugural start of the 2011 campaign following recovery from biceps irritation, Johnny Cueto looked no worse for the wear. In six innings (103 pitches) he gave up five hits and zero runs, striking out four and walking one. His fastball gained velocity as the innings progressed, touching 94 in the sixth.

Dan Haren rebounded from his first reasonably poor effort (7 IP, 9 H, 4 ER) to strike out ten Indians in 6 2/3 innings. He received a no decision in the Angels come from behind victory.

What closer has pitched 11 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run? You guessed it: Joel Hanrahan. He picked up his 10th save in dominating fashion, needing only eight pitches to finish the deed.

In the Rays three-game sweep of Baltimore, B.J. Upton notched seven hits and eight runs batted in. He's batting .308 through the first six games of May.

A's converted starting pitcher Tyson Ross continues to pile up ground balls. Entering play on Sunday his GO/AO ratio was 1.60, and he picked up ten more groundouts in six innings at Kansas City. He garnered his second W, and his ERA stands at a diminutive 2.51.

Kyle McClellan threw eight innings of one run ball to improve to 5-0 on the year. Another converted SP who doesn't miss bats (22 K in 43 2/3), but forces the opposition to pound it into the dirt (1.65 GO/AO).
