2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Jair Jurrjens Wins 11th & Other News

Picture

Jair Jurrjens won his league-leading 11th game with ease. He pitched a complete game 1-hitter against the Orioles last night and struck out 8. Jurrjens lowered his ERA to 1.89 and leads all pitchers.

How better to start off July than by going yard. Jose Bautista hit his 25th of the year. After hitting 11 in May, Bautista only hit 4 in June. Here’s looking to a stronger July!

Also Eric Thames who was brought up to give the Jays a little spark, hit his 2nd home run since rejoining the team on the 24th.

Both Alexei Ramirez (8) & Aramis Ramirez (11) hit home runs yesterday.

Another fine performance from Madison Bumgarner (7.1 IP, 5H, 1R, 9K) last night against the Tigers and another no-decision… at least it wasn't for a loss. Just looking quickly through the game logs, one could imagine that if Bumgarner played for a team that could actually score, he could easily have 8 more wins. The craziest thing is that the Giants stand atop the NL West but on the very bottom of runs scored (104). What the f&%!

The Yankees took the first game of the Subway series, winning 5-1 behind Ivan Nova. Ivan hasn’t been spectacular but good enough to already have 8 wins before the break.

Carlos Santana is starting to heat up, hitting his 2 home run in the last 3 games. Great buy-low candidate for the second half.

Alexi Ogando had some big help for his 8th win from teammate Nelson Cruz. Nelson hit his 19th home run of the year and drove in 6 of the Rangers 15 runs.

After going 5-36, Charlie Blackmon pinch hit for a home run. No better way to break out of a slump. Juan Nicasio shut-out the Royals, holding them to 3 hits over 8 innings.

As long as the Diamondbacks keep playing AL teams, Wily Mo Pena will continue to hit them out of the park. He hit his 4th home run since being called up 10 games ago.

Jason Vargas, you may very well be the most underrated pitcher out there. Vargas pitched his 4th complete game shutout against the Padres last night. He is only owned in 18% of Y! and only 25% of ESPN leagues.

Pitching matchup of the day goes to Clayton Kershaw vs. Jered Weaver. This is a rematch from last week where Kershaw slightly out-dueled Weaver for the win.
