2011 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: Matt Kemp Blasts 22nd Homer, Potential For Triple Crown?

Picture

On a day in which Frank McCourt, the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, files for Bankruptcy Protection, the team puts up 15 runs on 25 hits. Maybe they should file Chapter 11 more often?

Matt Kemp slugged his National League leading 22nd moon shot in the aforementioned 15-0 victory for the Dodgers over the Twins. Kemp is 2nd in the NL in AVG (.336), 1st in HR (22) and 2nd in RBI (62) to give him a legitimate shot at the triple crown

Jordan Walden surrendered a ninth inning homer to Nationals’ second baseman Danny Espinosa, to blow his second consecutive save opportunity. If you’re looking for some Walden insurance, look to add Scott Downs.

The anti-Walden, Craig Krimbrel, fanned three Mariners in impressive fashion to notch his 21st save of 2011 in a 3-1 Braves victory.

In a 5-0 Cincinnati Reds victory, Drew Stubbs went 1-for-3, stole his 23rd bag of the season and whiffed twice. Stubbs now leads the majors with 107 strikeouts on the season.

Since we’re on the topic of strikeouts, Adam Dunn has 100 on the season (43.3K%), disgusting.

Top Angels prospect, Mike Trout, leads the Texas League (AA) with 24 stolen bases. Additionally, the Jersey native is batting .325 with 30 XBH.

Carlos Gonzalez blasted his eleventh and twelfth round-trippers in a Rockies loss to the Cubs, and now has 12 homers and 12 stolen bases on the season. This time last year CarGo had 12/11. Expect Gonzalez to heat up after the All-Star break and make a push for a 30/30 season.

Xavier Cedeno of Double-A Corpus Christi (Astros) struck out a franchise-high 14 batters on Monday night. The first nine Frisco RoughRiders who came to bat, fell victim to the K, eight went down swinging. Cedeno now leads the Texas league with 93 strikeouts in 94 innings pitched.

The patient Brandon Beachy owners were rewarded again last night with his second consecutive win since returning from the DL. The youngster spun six innings, striking out nine Mariners while only allowing one earned run on three hits. In his last two outings, Beachy has surrendered just two earned runs (both were homers) in 12 innings pitched with a 20:3 K:BB ratio. Beachy is owned in just 53% of Y! leagues.

Craig Kimbrel (21), Heath Bell (21), Chris Perez (19) and Jose Valverde (18) each earned saves last night.
