The Daily Fix: Another Quality Start for the Yankees Bartolo Colon & Other Fantasy Baseball

Picture

Bartolo Colon pitched his third straight quality start, although the win went to Joba Chamberlain. Alex Avila hit 2 solo shots of Colon, but otherwise it was a strong start, giving up 7 hits and 7 strikeouts. Mariano Rivera got his league-leading 11th save.

Although Madison Bumgarner still stands winless, fantasy owners can feel a lot better. MadBum pitched his second great game in a row. In the past 13 innings he has given up only 1 earned run and struck out 14 while walking 2. With games like that the wins will come, so be patient.

As predicted in our Sit Em, Start Em, Jair Jurrjens pitched a gem against the Brewers. He went 7.2 innings only allowing 2 runs. Jair is now 3-0 and has his only no-decision was a gem as well. His ERA stands at a svelte 1.52.

Jered Weaver was dealt his first loss of the season. It was barely a bad performance going 6IP, 3ER, with 6 K. This “bad” outing bumped his sub-1.00 ERA to 1.39 on the season. If Weaver is the 2nd coming of Ubaldo Jimenez’s 2010 campaign, then he should win his next 7 starts. Owners can dream…

Both off to extremely slow starts, Derek Lee & Alex Rios hit their 2nd home runs of the year in Chicago last night. Paul Konerko joined in the fun and hit 2 of his own giving him 8 on the season. Konerko is hands down one of the most consistent long ball blasters in the game averaging over 30 a year since 1999.

Lance Berkman continues his “Guess Who’s Back Party” hitting his 9th dinger of the year, tied for 3rd in the majors.

Alfonso Soriano has been an absolute animal, hitting his 11th home run off of Clayton Kershaw and pulling ahead of Ryan Braun to lead the majors. It wasn’t enough for the Cubs though, as Kershaw evened up his record to 3-3 on the year with the win.

As if a .217 average wasn’t bad enough, Nick Markakis was hit on the hand from a pitch. He is day-to-day. Also DTD is Jacoby Ellsbury who suffered a knee contusion sliding into home plate against the Angels.

This day in history (1936) Joe DiMaggio made his major league debut, getting 3 hits and 3 runs.

In ESPN leagues, Darwin Barney (62.3%) and Mike Aviles (62.1%) are the most added hitters so far this week. Bartolo Colon (37.1%) is the most added pitcher.

Today’s pitching matchups I will be watching are Dan Haren @Jon Lester, Francisco Liriano @Edwin Jackson, Anibal Sanchez @Kyle McClellan, Livan Hernandez @Cole Hamels
