2013 Fantasy Baseball, Week 15 Tools of the Trade: Still Time To Buy David Price?

David Price

TheFantasyFix.com’s “Tools of the Trade” is a unique guide for owners to use while attempting to make an even trade with their league-mates in a standard 12-team mixed, 5×5 head-to-head or rotisserie redraft league.

The values present in this guide are simply the basis for a trade. A full-blown analysis of each team’s strengths and weaknesses are essential prior to proposing or accepting a trade offer.

How to use the guide: Ideally, owners will agree to a trade that will aid both sides and stay within $2-3 of each other in a one-for-one and $4-5 in a multi-player deal, according to our chart.

The Week 1 “Tools of the Trade” was free for all readers, but going forward, the “Tools of the Trade” will only be available to Front Office members. Learn the benefits of being a Front Office member here.

Without further ado, here is week 15′s trade value chart:

Trading isn’t easy. It’s fun, but not easy. Remember that you don’t have to “win” the trade in order to pull the trigger. If you’re improving your team, then you should make the deal.

Each-and-every week fantasy baseball owners send us their trade proposals and/or offers via our “Quick Fix” and Twitter to determine if the offer is fair and whether or not the trade should be proposed or accepted.

This week’s theme? David Price.

Entering the twenty-thirteen season, David Price was pegged as a top five starter by most fantasy analysts. Unfortunately, he’s been sidelined most of the first half with what appeared to be a triceps injury. It would have been best to deal for the starter while he was on the disabled list because he dazzled in his first trip back to the hill after being activated, giving owners hope that he will produce int he second half like he could have in the first half, if he were healthy. Price dealt seven frames of three-hit ball, fanned ten and earned his second win of the year. Not bad, eh? The window of opportunity to buy low may have closed a bit, but if you overwhelm his owner, there is still a chance to acquire his services.

Let’s see what kind of deals have been going down for the former Cy Young Award winner:

Wow. Just wow.

I love Manny Machado as much as the next owner, but like Ben Duronio noted here at the Fix last week, he is a bit overrated in fantasy leagues — especially those of the redraft variety. Despite being $5 apart according to our chart, I like this deal for both sides.

Domonic Brown is finally having the breakout season we’ve been waiting for. The post-hype sleeper is sporting a .279/.325/.549 line with 22 homers, 60 RBI and eight stolen bases trough 86 games. Why would you consider trading this guy? Well, for one, you may have drafted/added him late giving you excess in the outfield. Additionally, Brown owns a 24.4% HR/FB% (career 16.3% HR/FB%) so he could be in line for some regression in the second half. Many of the fly balls that left the park in the first three months could fall for doubles as the dog days of summer roll on. Lastly, Brown’s trade value may never be higher. So whether or not he maintains this production, you’re selling-high and getting a nice return on your investment.

All-in-all this appears to be a fair deal for both sides. I’d definitely prefer the Price side, especially if I were in need of an arm.

Just got offered Billy Butler and Samardijza for Josh Hamilton. Think I should pull the trigger on that offer?

Yes, I think that’s a great haul for Hamilton. I’d do it.
