Daily Fantasy Baseball Strategy: May 16, 2016 – FanDuel Value Plays

Below we’ve got a discussion on some some MLB DFS value plays for the Monday 8-game slate on FanDuel. These are some names to consider for salary relief without completely punting the position. Our friends at RotoQL have once again been used to help guide your research for today’s games. To learn more about RotoQL or to take a look at the packages they have to offer, please follow this link – it will truly help you become a better daily fantasy baseball player — and will give you a full look at value plays for each position, for each site.

Always double check team’s official lineups and the weather prior to submitting your lineups.

David Ortiz | Red Sox | $4,300 (FD) –  It should be noted that this game is a good bet to get banged due to the rain, so please monitor that closely and have a reasonable backup plan. But if by chance this game goes, this is a great spot for Big Papi with the platoon advantage against Yordano Ventura who’s been struggling as of late. Ortiz owns a career .421 wOBA and .301 ISO against right-handed pitchers and I’m not sure we need to go with anything else more than that. The price isn’t cheap, but the ceiling is extremely high, which is where the value lies. This could be a double dong day.

Howie Kendrick | Dodgers | $2,500 (FD) – The Dodgers face off with their crosstown rival Angels tonight in Chavez Ravine. The game total sits at just 7.5, but the Dodgers are a heavy favorite (-185) against right-hander Matt Shoemaker. Shoemaker is 1-5 on the season with a 9.12 ERA (6.20 FIP) and a 4.9% K-BB%. All handed batters have teed off against Shoemaker this season, but he does have some reverse splits going on — allowing more success to same-handed hitters — with right-handed hitters owning a .444 wOBA against him so far in ‘15. Everyone on the Dodgers is in play — including the field crew — but Kendrick provides a nice value at the cornerstone on FanDuel tonight.

Steve Pearce | Rays | $2,800 (FD) – Pearce shows up on RotoQL as the best value among outfielders. The Rays face J.A. Happ who’s been fantastic to start the season, but has posted a .369 wOBA and .224 ISO against left-handed hurlers. Happ has surrendered four homers this season — all the right-handed bats. Pearce has a chance to dong today if he’s in the lineup and presents a great value at just $2,800.

Ryan Rua | Rangers | $2,300 (FD) – Brandon Guyer shows up as the second-best value among outfielders at $3,000, but recency bias will likely have him a bit more owned than someone like Ryan Rua. Mind you, Rua needs to be in the lineup for this to be applicable, but he’ll get the platoon advantage against recent southpaw call-up Sean Manea. Rua has a .428 wOBA against lefties with a 173 wRC+. Makes for a fine “plus one” with the stack of your choice if he’s playing.
