Daily Fantasy Football Strategy: Conference Championship Tight Ends

The NFL playoffs continue and so does Daily Fantasy Football at DraftKings for one more week. I’m back to provide recommendations for Tight Ends for your weekly lineup for NFL DFS games.

DraftKings Tight End Recommendations

A gentle reminder on the scoring for Tight Ends – this is a PPR site so remember that when selecting players. The full for scoring for Tight Ends is at the end of this column.

Tight Ends can also be used in the flex position at DraftKings. However, with the entire world of RBs and WRs at your disposal Rob Gronkowski is probably the only TE you’d consider as a flex option. TEs still make a viable option at the flex spot as long as the pricing continues to be soft.

Let’s take a look at a couple of options at each price point. For those who are new to the column, I’ll generally look at a couple of options in each pricing tier broken out based on the socioeconomic status of 1970s sitcom families. And I’ll always cover Rob Gronkowski.

I’ll mention Football Outsiders a lot over the season – the passes per game and yards per game stats I use are from Football Outsiders. Here is the link to Football Outsiders’ 2013 stats. FO stats for 2014 are here and I like to use the defense versus types of receivers to fill out my rosters. And we now have 2015 stats located here.

Teams on bye: A lot of teams are golfing right now.

Over/Under

IMPORTANT: All games on are Sunday this week so you’ve got an extra day to plan.

The top over/under totals for the third week of the NFL Playoffs (according to Vegas Insider consensus):

New England Patriots at Denver Broncos – 44.5 points
Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers – 48 points

Mork and Mindy

We have renamed the Gronk Tier the Mork and Mindy Tier as it’s clear that Gronk is not of this world.

Rob Gronkowski | Patriots | $7,600 – So, he was injured last week? That wasn’t too bad for a guy with knee and back injuries. And his matchup is quite good as the Broncos are soft in the middle even though they have a tough pass defense. Gronk and Chandler had 21 targets in the Week 12 matchup. That pass defense is based on their corners shutting down WR after WR. Not so for TEs. So, Gronk is my number one play on the board. But, that’s not tough to pick. So, how do you differentiate your lineup this week at the TE position if you want to?

The Jeffersons

Greg Olsen | Panthers | $7,100 – By pairing Gronk with Olsen. That’s how you can pivot to a lineup that others may not have. You should have the salary flexibility to put both in your lineup and they each have cherry matchups. You don’t need to choose between the two best TEs in the game. Take them both as the Cardinals haven’t been great against TEs either.

All in the Family

Good Times

See ya next year!

Sanford and Son

As we strive to give you more and more each week, we’ve added a new tier. The Sanford & Son tier. If you want to go dumpster diving hoping to find that gem, let Sanford & Son be your guide. You hear that Elizabeth? I’m coming to join ya!

Owen Daniels | Broncos | $2,300 – There is a pretty reasonable chance that you can throw a football further than Peyton Manning at this point. He did have five catches for 48 yards against New England in Week 12. But, with a short slate, there just isn’t enough upside here.

Vernon Davis | Broncos | $2,200 – One snap last week. Vaya con Dios.

Darren Fells, Jermaine Gresham & Troy Niklas| Cardinals | $2,000 – Fells will get the snaps so he should get the “volume” if you really want to go crazy and start a TE who could score as many as one-two-three-four-fifth points!

So, for this week, I’d pair Gronk and Olsen in tournaments (GPP). Either one is fine in cash games and I don’t mind putting them together for cash games as well. Good luck and thanks for reading this year. We’ll see you next year. And if you haven’t yet, you should check out my PGA DSF work as well!
