2013 Fantasy Baseball Daily Fix: June 15th 2013

Daily Fantasy Baseball Fix

Today I will be playing the Daily Dollar (great for beginners) If you are new to @DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball, you can claim your Deposit Bonus here!

Before I get into my @DraftKings team of the day, here are some weather notes for tomorrow’s games. –Note rain percentages aren’t definitive and are best used as a reminder to check the weather status again on game-day before selecting a player from that game.

Potential rain concerns:

Blue Jays @ Rangers: 30 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms from 1 pm to 8 pm central time

Phillies @ Rockies: 30-40 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms from 3 pm mountain time thru the entire game

There are no extreme wind conditions projected for today’s slate of games.

Here is my team:

Pitcher: John Danks | $8,700 @ Astros: Danks does carry a bit of risk given the fact that the Astros are at home and can do well against left handed pitching, however, as any pitcher going against the Astros does, he has the chance to throw a no-hitter.

Pitcher: Alex Cobb | $9,400 vs. Royals: Cobb has been an absolute stud this season. He carries a 2.95 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP into his start against Kansas City. Cobb was bad his last time out, but he was dealing with a death in the family, and we often forget these ballplayers are human beings too. Cobb carries a 3.65 K:BB ratio into this start as well, against a team, the Royals, that is about as bad in that category as any in the league.

Other option: Samuel Deduno $5,000 vs. Tigers: Call me crazy, but Deduno has been pretty good lately. He’s gotten a bit lucky in terms of giving up walks without many strikeouts, and it hasn’t hurt him, but if you like to name your Daily Fantasy Teams, you can call your team “It’s Not Delivery It’s Deduno”, which is hilarious.

Catcher: Mike Zunino | $2,000 @ Athletics: Zunino homered last night and he’s only struck out once in each game so far this year. Not bad for a rookie. He’s a great option at this price.

First Base: Adam Lind | $5,100 @ Rangers: If you’ve read my Daily Fix articles this month and have taken some of my advice, you may have cashed in on Adam Lind’s start against Justin Grimm in which he hit a home run and had 4 RBI. Lind is white hot right now and now gets to face Josh Lindblom, a failed prospect being rolled out by a team who is starved for starting pitching depth right now.

Other option: Freddie Freeman | $5,000 vs. Braves: Freeman hasn’t homered since June 3rd against the Pirates, but he’s been excellent despite the lack of power. He has a .313 batting average this season which is more than making up for the lack of home runs. In fact, he’s really looking like what everyone expected Eric Hosmer to become. Freeman is also 2-5 against Gaudin in his career, and that should continue to improve because Gaudin is complete and utter crap against lefties in his career.

Second Base: Pedro Florimon | $3,300 vs. Tigers: It’s quite difficult to make this recommendation with a straight face. I’ll suffice it to say that’s its mostly a salary move. For what it’s worth Florimon hits righties much better than lefties, and he’s 3-7 in his career vs. Anibal Sanchez. And if Sanchez’s shoulder soreness is more serious than he’s letting on, there’s some small blowup potential in this start.

Third Base: Logan Forsythe | $4,100 vs. Diamondbacks: Forsythe also qualifies at second base, so there’s your backup option there; in any case, Forsythe has been hot since taking over for the injured Jedd Gyorko at the keystone. He’ll get to face Wade Miley today, who is 2-3 against with a home run. Forsythe also is pretty much just a lefty killer, so he also has that in his history as well. He’s a sneaky start.

Shortstop: Everth Cabrera | $3,700 vs. Diamondbacks: How Cabrera is only priced at $3,700 is unfathomable. He’s been the best shortstop in baseball so far, and his contact rate gains all the way up to 80% are a huge reason for this. Cabrera also hits .545 against Miley in his career, with a 1.000 slugging percentage. The sample size is just 11 at-bats, but a home run, a triple, and two stolen bases on that resume? Sign me up!

Outfield: Chris Davis | $5,700 vs. Red Sox: He’s getting hot again! Davis homered last night, making it twice in his last three games. Davis owns John Lackey too, he hits .471/.526/.756 against Lackey in 17 career at-bats. He’s pure gold.

Outfield: Jay Bruce | $4,300 vs. Brewers: Bruce hit a walkoff home run against Burke Badenhop last night for his twelfth home run of the season. He should hit a couple against Yovani Gallardo today; Gallardo has been Bruce’s whipping boy in his career. Bruce hits .419/.455/.710 against Gallardo in 31 career at-bats against him.

Outfield: Matt Joyce | $3,700 vs. Royals: Joyce is by far the daily fantasy pick of the day. He’s heating up yet again, sporting a .424 OBP and a .724 slugging percentage in his last seven days. He has even added a stolen base. Joyce hits an absurd .370/.400/.630 against Jeremy Guthrie in his career over 27 at-bats. You can’t go wrong here.

Friday News and Notes around the MLB:

DL Updates:

San Francisco Outfielder Angel Pagan who has not played since May 25th, is not going to return this weekend against the Braves according to Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com. He was originally expected to, but his hamstring isn’t quite ready.

Colorado Rockies superstar shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was placed on the disabled list Friday with a broken rib. He’s expected to miss four to six weeks. In other breaking news, the sky is blue, there is violence in Syria still, and the sun rises every day before going down at night.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp is “at least a week away” according to skipper Don Mattingly. He’s had some setbacks with his hamstring, and of course this is not good news for his owners. In what could be a hidden blessing though, this is giving his shoulder plenty of time to rest.

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Aaron Hill could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, according to AZCentral.com.

New York Yankees third baseman Kevin Youkilis was placed on the disabled list with a lower back injury. Once again, this injury continues to be a reoccurring problem for Youkilis this season. It’s quite sad because his skills seem to still be intact.

Toronto Blue Jays superstar shortstop Jose Reyes participated in a simulated game in which he played two innings, according to MLB.com’s Gregor Chisholm. He looks to be on track to begin a rehab assignment on Monday at High-A Dunedin.

Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto felt fine during his bullpen session on Friday and looks to be good to go for his start on Sunday.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy felt a “tingle” in his elbow Thursday during his rehab start at Triple-A Gwinnett and according to GM Frank Wren, Beachy will not start on Tuesday June 18th as expected.

Cleveland Indians closer and apparent marijuana enthusiast Chris Perez will head out on a rehab assignment on Sunday. We feel like if he goes back to closing games he won’t be successful. Cody Allen looks to still be the dark horse closer candidate and is the guy to target in that bullpen.
