2013 Fantasy Football: Week 15 Target Practice

Key: I – Player missed game or left game early due to injury. S – Player was suspended for game. A – Player was inactive. B – Bye week. Ellington’s (28, 58) touches have gone up each of the last three weeks, but his have stayed well under 50 percent. Mendenhall isn’t even playing 50 percent of Arizona’s snaps, but he’s seeing more touches than Ellington although the latter is the more dynamic player. Neither makes for a particularly good start the final two weeks of the season; Arizona plays Seattle and San Francisco. If you have to start one I’d go with Ellington.

Three of the four games in which Jones (7, 22) has played over 70 percent of Baltimore’s snaps have come in the last three games. He’s seen 23 targets in those games and is averaging over five catches and 56 yards a game in his last three. And three weeks ago he had over 100 yards and a score, so he’s been playing well recently.

Woods (4, 7) led the Bills in targets, yards, catches and he also scored Sunday, and he may be the team’s No. 1 receiver this week as Johnson is dealing with a personal matter. The matchup against Miami is a fairy tough one, but the Patriots did work against the Dolphins last week and Woods has good games against Carolina and Baltimore already this season. He’s worth a look.

Edwin Baker, in his first NFL game, only played 36 percent of Cleveland’s snaps but had 12 touches, 84 yards and a score Sunday. McGahee expects to be back this week, so the Cleveland running back situation is even murkier and I’d recommend staying away from it.

Green Bay

Quarless has went 6-66-1 in each of his past two games, but his playing time has stayed relatively the same as it did from about Week 8-on. However, Matt Flynn‘s two highest yardage days have been the past two weeks, too. Quarless is seeing the same amount of targets or more as Nelson, Jones and Boykin so Quarless could be a sneaky play – against a Pittsburgh team that’s poor against tight ends – if you’re somehow weak at tight end.

Ryan Griffin, the Texans’ third-string tight end, played every offensive snap Sunday and caught six passes for 62 yards. It’s unknown whether Daniels and/or Graham will play this week, but I think Griffin’s better left on the waiver wire.

Todman (2, 19) played 87 percent of snaps filling in for MJD, and he compiled 29 touches and 153 total yards. We don’t know yet if MJD will go this week, but if he doesn’t Todman should be picked up and can be played against Tennessee’s 32nd-ranke defense against running backs.

Philadelphia was the Vikings’ best matchup of the year when it comes to wide receivers, and Jennings took advantage. But don’t think he’ll repeat his 11-163-1 day this week. Patterson (9, 43) caught five passes and rushed twice, scoring in his third straight game. Even if Peterson and/or Gerhart don’t play this week I wouldn’t pick up Matt Asiata. He didn’t even average two yards a carry with 30 carries, and he scored from the 1 twice and the 5 once. That would be extremely hard to do again, and his other skills aren’t likeable at all.

Streater (7, 25) has been quietly productive all season, and he’s averaging five catches and 84 yards a game in his last five. He should end the season with over 1,000 yards.

Baldwin (17, 24) has at least 63 yards in five of his last six games, but while his playing time is steady his catches and targets have been very inconsistent. He’s been catching touchdowns to boost his value, but a matchup against Arizona this week makes me weary. However, if you play in Week 17 Seattle plays St. Louis.

Michael Preston scored twice against Arizona, but he only played 31 percent of Tennessee’s snaps and caught just one other pass. Also, he only had five targets even though Ryan Fitzpatrick attempted 58 passes.
